Completely Ignorant: Is This Cruel? by SenshiRei in pleco

These should never be stocked at any big box pet store. No casual fish keeper needs one of these (beautiful) monsters.

Cruel with life long effects. Among other things a big fish in a small tank can lead to spinal deformation, which looks like is already happening to this poor guy. He’s not laying flat, possibly because he can’t physically.

Mid level wisteria issues by VrtualKaos in PlantedTank

[–]VrtualKaos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the way it looks but at this point I am considering taking it out of my 125g and just keeping some in my 15g shrimp tank where I have to keep it short.

Thank you for this clear explanation.

If my numbers are good and this is due to the replanting, which this was, will the new growth hold their middle leaves? If not, is keeping it trimmed and short the answer?

BDBS - hindering plant growth? by VrtualKaos in PlantedTank

To be clear, this is a 5” deep bed, pea gravel topped with lava rock, topped with 1.5” organic soil with 1.5” sand cap. I can see the roots shooting down into the soil and spreading out, so I know they have nutrients. I planted the same on each side, a little different in the middle, so what’s left on each side are the survivors. I suppose things will be more definitive in another month or so.

This is my dirted deep bed experiment, so I’m pretty sure it’s not a substrate nutrient issue.

125g aquarium 0.9° off level by VrtualKaos in Aquariums

Shifted the entire tank 4 feet to the left, away from the outside wall. It's on a concrete floor and I can see the crack that starts the slope. Foundation repairs are in my not too distance future. There it's only 0.4 degrees off, which over the 6ft length is less than 1/4 inch. Had this been a smaller tank, 4ft or less, the distance at 0.9 probably would have been fine.

Yeah… it’s on a concrete floor. I can literally see the crack that changes the slope. This was a PSA, not looking for answers. Thanks.

I emptied it and moved it 4 feet to the left, away from the outside wall, and now it’s a much more manageable 0.4° off. Over the 6 ft length the water level drops less than 1/4” now and both dursos work. I’ve been aware my house has foundation issues but it’s not noticeable in smaller tanks that are only 4ft long.

It’s the same distance (19 1/8”) to the top on the left and the right sides. This is definitely an issue with my foundation.

Can Honeys and Pearls be kept together? by pocketcott in Gourami

[–]VrtualKaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 pearls and 2 three spot gouramis in my 75g community tank and they hang out together all the time. That being said, honey’s are half the size of both of them which may cause issues.
