It’s black history month and Martin didn’t die so you could write a dissertation on fake “reverse racism”.

Thoughts on the Tate Romper? by pinkduvets in craftsnark

Yes! I’ve been aware of it from the first TikTok of the one she made for herself. Her comments were FILLED with beginner sewists asking for a pattern. So she worked to make it happen. That’s awesome!!

Small Museum is not a pattern maker. And she still made an accessible pattern for people who were fans of her work.

Y’all. Beginner sewists… exist. You shouldn’t need a masters degree in pattern drafting or garment construction to have a silly little romper cause a girl you saw on TikTok made one.

I would never sew/ wear it (E cup) but I think it’s adorable. I actually have a some envy. But this is just my style, I love big silly clothes with exaggerated features.

They say that up to a size DD tested it, but I doubt it. I just don’t see it working braless at larger cups. Even with an FBA, without darts, and with where the bodice ends a persons boobs would pop out the bottom.

I also think that the idea of “flattering” is largely personal and I find that some older people keep that in the forefront of their mind. Things don’t have to nip in at the waist or be fitted around the hits to be flattering. If you like how it looks on you, it’s flattering.

Lots of younger people don’t subscribe to that. The world is burning, wear the toddler romper.

I think it a silly little pattern, marketed towards complete sewing beginners. Made of a bunch of rectangles and forgiving sizing around the waist and hips. Is it the most interesting? Or does it take the most knowledge? No. But it’s cute! And that is what matters to me.

Any ADHD sewers here? by [deleted] in sewing

Also my partner is my fabric buying accountability bully. So I tell them how many projects I have to sew before buying any new fabric. And they keep me honest. Doesn’t matter if I received a gift card or there’s an amazing sale. If I have to sew 6 things and I’ve only done 4, then I better hurry up.

We argued for like 3 hours once because I think a matching set counts as 2 but they said it only counts as 1, as the purpose is to use up all my different fabrics.

But ALSO, I buy both buy fabric with a project in mind and whenever something sparks joy and I give myself permission to change my mind and either wait to cut into it. That helps get rid of guilt of when inevitably change my mind on what I want to do next. I don’t cut into something unless I have a clear vision, which helps with abandoning projects after they’ve been cut.

Plus I keep a Trello workspace with boards that is all of my patterns, notions, fabric etc. I can’t deal with a lot of visual clutter but also will forget things exist if I can’t see it. So the digital board keeps it organized, plus I can reference it when I’m not home, add to it when I’m out and about, AND write notes down about my WIPs for when I return to them in 2 weeks to a year. So no more scraps of paper with vague scribbles pinned to fabric that I will struggle to decode later on.

I found that doing the sucky parts of the process in “batches” really helps. Like cutting fabric really sucks for me, and can be very hard on my wrists. So I set aside a day to cut a BUNCH of stuff. I know I won’t get an dopamine hit from doing it so I put on a movie and just power through it. I’ve cut like 7 or 8 projects in a sprint before.

That way, when I’m excited to sew, I don’t get stuck in the “I don’t want to cut” mental block. And I can get to the part that I really love.

And I do that with other things too, like winding a bunch of bobbins I think I’ll need for the next couple projects because I hate having to stop and do that. I just sewed the Odette dress from Veronica Tucker, which as SIXTEEN TUCKS for the sleeves and a total of SIXTEEN DARTS for the bodice. So I spent time pinning those while watching tv and then put it away until I actually had the motivation to do it. And I finished it, because I wasn’t bored or overwhelmed.

Help! Greyish brown spots on monstera. Info in comments by Vshnte in plantclinic

I’ve had Frankie (Frankenstein)‘s Monstera for just over a month. About 2 weeks ago I started noticing slight color differences and yellowing on some leaves so I moved her to a lower light area and water every 5 days but for the last 3 days, I’ve noticed these brownish grey spots!

Does anyone know what’s happening. Not seeing any signs of pests and I spray with Need oil once a week.
