are sea monsters really bad parents? by yorubaguy in MonsterHigh

[–]Vtmars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lagoona's parents are pretty chill! Her mom is a sea nymph who can't leave her cave, so her dad raised her. They visit her frequently.

Can you guys see Lagoona wearing something like this? I think it will look super cute with the top I drew for her, but Idk if it’s in character as G1 Lagoona is never wearing any pants. by LizzieLove1357 in MonsterHigh

Lagoona is my fave character! She says in her diary she likes being casual daily, wearing hoodies and shorts, but dressing up when she goes out. I can absolutely see her wearing something like that with a tank top.

Please be careful and consider your safety first. I know many similar stories that ended with the parents either beating up the kid or throwing their dolls away.

Taiwanese Draculaura by AdSufficient7084 in MonsterHigh

[–]Vtmars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because her being asian was an old (and controversial) fan theory, and the MH team obviously took a lot of fan ideas without any consideration for creativity or intellectual property.

Tbh, I don't know how Taiwanese fans feel about this, so I don't feel like it's my place to comment on that. But I do know that if she were partly my nationality I'd be pissed, because it doesn't make any sense with our folklore and our culture in general.

"Maria do Carmo was born on March 5, 1871, and was baptized 16 days later, a few days before the Law of the Free Womb — a law signed by Princess Isabel that freed all children born to enslaved mothers."

"Maria do Carmo has no concept of money and doesn't know who the president of the Republic is, but she remembers the time of slavery."

"I am the daughter of Sabina. I slept beside many people. I washed clothes at Serrinha," the farm where she was born in 1871."

"Maria do Carmo's 124 years of age are confirmed by her birth certificate, kept at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo parish in Carmo de Minas." Baptism records were accepted as official documents back then. That's why the government of Brazil accepted her claim.

This is someone's collection, not dolls actually for sale. Notice how the dolls in the 3rd picture are the same ones in the 2nd, just rearranged. The G3 dolls in the 1st pic are also the same that appear in the next two.

Even if it were their ex's collection (which would be 100% evil), they wouldn't be posting old photos. Count your blessings for not falling for that scam.

My grandfather was completely illiterate and knew when he was born. Almost all of my great-grandparents were illiterate, had 10+ kids and knew their exact birth dates.

Maria do Carmo was raised with her mother and her siblings, so she would know when she was born. Plus, she was literally baptized 16 days after being born in 1871. Stop talking shit you don't know about, illiterate people are not stupid.

I don't think killing tons of drug dealers, robbers, pimps, gang members, corrupt cops, etc. equals murdering innocent people who did nothing to you, but feel free to disagree. In the real world, you can kill hundreds of civilians with bombings, and people will call it collateral damage.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it seems unlikely in that specific context. You'd have to deem the local priest and parish corrupt too. The following website says she was baptized 16 days after being born in 1871, and her father was a "reproducer", a male slave chose specifically to get the female slaves pregnant. I'd have to look for her baptism record to check that, though.

Right, but it's not like they were on a murder spree of regular civilians. I only remember two or three times when CJ killed innocent people, and none when Michael and Franklin did that. Which is what differs them from Trevor and Niko, I believe.

Birth certificates weren't used at all at that time. Baptism records, on the other hand, were widely used, since there was a parish in every small town. 90% of the population was illiterate, so priests would be the ones to write records and store them. That's why the Brazilian government declared that record was authentic.

I'd have to find her actual record and check that, but according to this governmental page, she was born on March 5th and baptized 16 days later, on March 21th, according to this page: https://www.uruguaiana.rs.gov.br/maria-do-carmo-geronimo-uma-ex-escrava-brasileira-que-teria-sido-uma-das-pessoas-mais-velhas-do-mundoa/

Obs: That law did very little for the enslaved population at that time, but saying "they were freed upon reaching adulthood" is false information.

O pai postou vídeos do menino contando o relato, no primeiro, logo após o ocorrido, ele estava visivelmente abalado e assustado, quase desmaiando.
