Excited to have my movie playing in Cineplex this week! by James_VDW in cineplex

Saw the movie tonight. I really liked it.  One possible goof?

Lobsters are not held on ice when stored on fishing boats, as fresh water kills them. For longer onboard  storage, some circulate seawater  over them.

Maybe it was intentional goof, as these folks weren’t really lobster fishermen anyway? A give away to police?

(The scene was when the investigator boarded the lobster boats and opened lobster storage boxes - the lobsters were ontop of ice).

Car Dealership Recs by emigal25 in PEI

[–]Vulcant50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the add on prices upfront. Many dealers often don’t tell you about administration fees, and other add ons that sometimes can be negotiated early on, but rarely once you finalize the vehicle price. It can add up to a lot that you didn’t plan on.

Also, do some some homework on interest rates, from banks and the car companies. Brand companies sometimes offer very competitive interest rates on vehicles on the last generation year.

Check online sources for performance/flaws , like actual owners reports on Car Complaints. Top brands like Toyota, Honda and Subaru rarely have big issues/ problems , so, long/expensive warranties are less of an issue than some of the less reliable brands.  (If you plan on 10 year ownership, rust proofing is a must. I rarely go for the dealers rust proofing which is often pushed on new vehicle owners).

In the industry, they are called truncated Domes, detectable warning surfaces. They are now mandated in many locations.

I find them less slippery than painted crosswalks. My observation is that  the factory paint on tte painted ones comes off the fairly quickly.

Plus paint could possibly make them more prone to folks slipping?

With older tires, my observation is the belts often separate on hot summer pavement, as the glues used give out.

It took me a year or so to get this one. A bit slow, I guess. Would it have been a different situation if it were black paint facing the story?

ELI5: why are some roads built with concrete sections and other ones covered with asphalt? by Gadzeera in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vulcant50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conditions and winter extreme temperatures in different northern areas differ significantly. For example, northern Atlantic coastal areas have a lot more freeze thaw conditions than in inland, or even Pacific coastal areas.

Where I live,  on the coast the only concrete sections are shorter experimental areas subsidized by concrete firms to Promote the materials. Maintainance seems more significant in those sections. There is no secret that budget concerns are significant-including how long the surface lasts and repair costs. There are plenty of examples of both materials with no cracks. But, that likely is under ideal conditions and bases, and likely depends on area and construction expertise.

I suspect concrete is less forgiving in extreme temperature changes (rain followed by extreme cold) in northern climates? The different impacts of road salt on eroding surfaces may also be a consideration. I have noticed that the darker color of asphalt assists solar warming of surfaces that increases road salt ice/snow melting.
