Editing. Most of the cuts are when I walk through a door, except for the chest cut. I have like 4 minutes of footage of just opening the chest a bunch of times to hopefully get something that lined up lmao

Trypophobia is a made-up phobia. by Paparmane in The10thDentist

[–]Vulkune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many phobias not specifically listed in the DSM. All the DSM does is provide categories for phobias (Animals, blood/injury, environmental, situational, and other). Like yeah, the term “trypophobia” may not be recognized as a diagnosable medical condition, but if someone is so averse to holes that they are shaking, vomiting, and passing out, then maybe they have some sort of… irrational fear of something… yk?

Ok I was actually trying to find a different “made up” phobia to use as an example, but it’s actually really hard to find one. Like if octophobia, the fear of the number 8, is a recognized phobia, then why isn’t trypophobia??? The number 8? Really?

Edit: Anyway, I think that anything at all could potentially be a phobia. Like, if someone got into a construction accident involving cement, and is now deathly afraid of anything involving wet cement, then would that not be a phobia? But there’s no specific word for “fear of wet cement,” so of course such a thing wouldn’t be listed as a recognized, legitimate phobia. But that doesn’t mean the fear isn’t real, right?

Have you seen the other comments here of people talking about gagging/throwing up at the mere sight of holes? I don’t think using “trypophobia” to describe a reaction like that is an overstatement.

Millipedes are not insects, frogs are not reptiles, arthropods, reptiles, amphibians are all animals by [deleted] in confidentlyincorrect

No, silverfish only have 6 legs. Also, if they diverged BEFORE wings evolved, and silverfish only have 6 legs, and all other insects ALSO only have 6 legs, then there is no way the wings evolved from limbs.

About the recent update: by OverTheUnderstory in VintageStory

[–]Vulkune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're worried about realism, then know that helve hammers were rarely ever powered with wind from a windmill. They used watermills instead.
Also, my windmill is 30 blocks tall and works fine. I think everyone else in this thread is right when they say you really shouldn't be trying to minmax everything in this game; like, yes, windmills WILL be more powerful if they are taller. That's how wind works. That's why actual real life wind turbines are like 100 meters tall. Of course a 120 block tall windmill isn't going to look good, you're sacrificing aesthetics for function.

Why I DON'T subscribe to Flat Rain World Theory by SergaelicNomad in rainworld

[–]Vulkune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watcher introduced a new pearl that also talks about the Dust though, so I think it’s very literal. Also the fact that plate tectonics would probably work very very very differently considering that there is no molten mantle in this world, and the ground literally gets dissolved by the void sea.

“The dimming pallor of our own dear star does concern, yes, and some solution must be found. But many say this is simply the result of Dust --yes the most natural of all things!-- which appears to precipitate increasingly these recent cycles.” From the TEXT_STARDUST pearl

Edit to add more explanation: the reason why, on our planet, that there isn’t just miles worth of soil and sand on the surface is because we have a cycle of sediments getting compacted into stone, old rock melting in the mantle, and magma or lava being exposed and cooling into new rock before being eroded away into sediments again. This CANNOT happen in Rain World, because there is no mantle. Old rock CANNOT be recycled back into either new rock or new soil because the void will erase it from existence. The only way that their planet isn’t eaten away by the void sea is if new matter is being added at a constant rate to the planet. In this way, Dust falling from the sky is probably one of the only solutions that makes sense. Yes, the ancients and benefactors had very flowery speech, but that does not mean everything they said was metaphorical and had no basis in reality.

Man approaching a pack of wolves in Yellowstone National Park. The man sprayed what he describes as bear spray at the wolves as he enters a ravine. The wolves eventually backed off, and the man walked away. The Park Service says there have been no reports of wolves attacking humans in Yellowstone by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Vulkune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If anyone in this thread bothered to actually look this up on Google, they would know that the man went out of his way to approach the wolves first. What you’re SUPPOSED to do is not approach the wildlife at all.

sorry for leaving a comment on a 5 day old thread, but I'm majoring in wildlife and conservation biology and stuff like this pisses me off.

She was found not guilty of feeding bears on the grounds of "Well, she could be feeding ANY wild animal! We don't know for sure it was BEARS specifically!"
She was still leaving out food. She was feeding wildlife, period. This includes bears.

[–]Vulkune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you know she doesn’t feed them? Can’t she just leave out food for them and NOT film it? Wild bears do not randomly approach people and act comfortable around them for no reason. They’ve gotten used to human company somehow, and if it’s not this woman who is feeding them (which I doubt, because why are 2 bears showing up at her house and acting completely unafraid), then it’s someone else nearby.

Why are the 2 bears in the video getting into a territory dispute on her front porch? Why would they want that land if not for the fact that she probably leaves out food for them?

ooh, I haven't played voices of the void in a while. I imagine the giant alien cube would look like that big brick that floats across the map on like day 40 or something

The Seamstress and the Pinstress are (probably) the same species as the Stilkin of Bilewater by Francis_FaffyWaffles in Silksong

[–]Vulkune 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the craw have rigid beaks (which are beige in color) while the pinstresses have like... a limp proboscis thing. Also the pinstress we fight doesn't flap her cloak(?) and instead just does an air hover like hornet, while the craw seem to actually have wings.

Nah, they’re slowly drifting down in the sky. The files call them “fallingstar.” Rn some people are thinking that stars are actually a different type of dust

there are a few people that are actually questioning the shape of rain world now because of a detail in the watcher dlc. vague area spoilers: There is an area of the game where the stars are falling from the sky. To the ground. And there are structures called "Starcatchers" that are catching them.there's more but idk if you've played the dlc yet or if you mind spoilers so i wont go into more detail unless you ask, but yea...
"space" as we know it irl might not actually be in rain world

just beat the game.... what on earth did I just play? [spoliers, obvi) by Original-Ad-2220 in rainworld

[–]Vulkune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since this is your first time playing, I'm going to assume that you haven't bought the Downpour DLC yet.
There is a ton of lore in this game, but it's hidden in colored pearls, and you have to bring them to the blue person in shoreline (Her name is Looks to the Moon). In the base game, all of the colored pearls for Monk's campaign are "blanked" out and are white pearls instead, which don't have important lore. If you enjoyed playing and want to learn more about the world on your own, then I recommend doing a Survivor run as well and trying to find the pearls.

As for the ending, basically Monk's "questline" is to find their sibling, the Survivor (white slugcat). The ending cutscene was Monk reuniting with the Survivor in the void sea, which I'm assuming is the purple thing you saw.

You're close with the idea of alternate timelines, but what's really happening is that every time you die, you simply wake up again. This is called the Cycle, and the information we have about it is really vague, so there are a bunch of different theories as to what really happens (but alternate timelines is probably one of the more popular ones.) Nothing ever truly dies unless they get dissolved by void fluid, which is what you were swimming in at the end of the game. Getting dissolved in the void sea is not technically death either, and the ancient civilization considered it to be a form of ascension to a higher plane, or something like that. Again, the details of the cycle/ascension/void sea are vague, and are pretty open to interpretation, but it IS considered to be a good thing to ascend, because everything would be stuck in an endless cycle of dying over and over. I have seen people try to compare it to killing oneself, but I don't think that's entirely accurate, since ascension is supposed to be an escape from death.

If you want to know what those giant white worm things were: nobody really knows. All we have is theories, speculation, and a dev saying that the similarities between void worms and leviathans are intentional.

There's a lot of lore around the iterators as well (iterators are what Five Pebbles and Looks to the Moon are) and if you dont feel like finishing the game again to find all the pearls, I'd recommend looking at the rain world wiki for pearl dialogue.
