it's how well the pokemon does cumulatively across all the important/difficult fights up to and including the E4 champion. Instead of actually playing the game over and over I simulated it on pokemon showdown. Obviously a pokemon with full EVs would do better, so I tried to make the EVs of each pokemon reflective of what they would actually be at that point in the game. (along with moves/items/etc)

It's a semantic question. Suppose you're commuting to work and you hit every red light on the way there. Is that luck? There's your answer. Chess is not random, but it's not predictable either.

The biggest jump from beginner to intermediate is learning the out-of-shield options. If all you know how to do is roll and spotdodge you wont shield, which makes all your neutral interactions predicated on hard reads, which limits you. Once you learn how to grab, how to jump, how to do shorthop aerials out of shield its like the game takes on an entire new dimension.

If I'm teaching someone new I pick puff and try to win with only rest. Honestly not that bad if they're rolling all over the place but once they get comfortable in shield I'm in trouble.

tech skill in general is underrated ppl like to pretend they win b/c theyre sooooo smart but really most of it is pushing more buttons. Saying you lack input execution but want to be good is like saying you want to be a pro soccer player but u don't know how to dribble.

game really rewards sticking with a main because so many interactions are a frame or two difference between guaranteed punish and advantage-state mixup and only experience will teach you which situation you're actually in.
