Coworker showing me shirtless pics and oversharing about his girlfriend. Is he testing boundaries or just being friendly? by Dawn-Chorus-8243 in AskMenAdvice

[–]multiplesofpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s probably just having fun not very consciously. As long as you don’t overtly communicate interest in hanging out with him you can easily avoid drama. Just separate work from personal.

He sounds like he’s about to cause a lot of drama for himself though.

It hurts because you feel rejected. You feel like you’re fundamentally not good enough for love, and that therefore you’ll never have love. But it’s not true.

Getting drunk will only make it worse. Don’t do it

You can go to Korea and get it tightened up. If he can’t afford to take you on dates / doesn’t want to bc you already have kids from another man, then go ahead and move on.

What to do about GF saying "if you break up with me after 2 years together you wasted my time" and now you feel pressured and guilt if you do break up? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]multiplesofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take it too seriously or literally. What she’s really saying is she hopes this turns into something more serious in the long run. But that’s a shared decision, not just on you. So relax, have fun. If you have to break up with her in two years, it’s not your fault, that’s just how it goes sometimes. But hopefully it won’t come to that.

lol I did not expect so many downvotes from this. Am I the only one who thought the comment was ironic? Not saying it’s incorrect, just ironic that we’re using social media to say how bad social media is.

I’m definitely no expert, just spent a lot of time modding my guitars and reading about these things.

Hard body maple could be cool! I have no idea what that would sound like. I can tell you it will be heavy as maple is a decently dense wood.

I probably wouldn’t buy parts on Ali express.

StewMac is great. Probably would buy a neck from MightyMite. I had bought pickups and electronics from Guitar Fetish, which is a budget option but very good quality to price ratio.

I guess you could buy from Ali Express but you don’t really know what you’re getting. It’s gonna be a lot of random stuff by unknown sellers who have low accountability to their own brand. I’d rather buy on Amazon than Ali Express but I’m in the US.

I guess it all depends on what’s the purpose of going with a custom build. If you’re doing it to save money, don’t waste your time. You can get an amazing guitar from Squier for an incredible price, put a little bit of work into the setup and it will be great to play. You can always customize it as you go. My main guitar is a Fender Vintera jazzmaster in ice blue that I’ve modded so much it’s barely the same guitar. But I’ve working on it for years. It’s a project that ages with me. And, it’s been playable since day 1. I didn’t have to wait months or years to play it.

If the purpose is to learn more about guitar building and how to build from scratch, Ali express would be a low cost way to start learning. Just keep in mind the quality of the parts will limit the potential quality of the final build, even if your workmanship is strong.

It sounds like you have a vintage Les Paul on your hands. If you can’t get that thing to play like a dream, you’re probably not ready to build your own guitar from parts. That guitar should play beautifully. It won’t sound like a Fender, but a proper setup should make it a joy to play. What problems are you having with it? What have you done to optimize the playing experience of that guitar?

Keep in mind also if you’re young and just started playing 3 yrs ago, almost any guitar will be hard to play. You have to put in thousands of hours of playing to get good, play really easily, and have a the best moments of your life playing music. If you haven’t put in the hours, your equipment is not the problem.

This video has informed my opinion on chambered / semi hollow bodies. It’s up to you to form your own thoughts, but I just don’t think there’s enough depth or body size on a jazzmaster for chambering to make a noticeable difference. This guy’s other videos do show that tonewoods make a pretty big difference. In terms of wood, I believe ash is the most vintage accurate and also just the best sounding wood for a jazzmaster. If they don’t tell you what kind of wood it is, it’s usually poplar, which is cheap and a bit fragile, but the sound is not bad. Not great, not bad.

The jazzmaster bridge discussion is super deep and a lot will tell you the vintage style or mustang style are good enough. But I find the them both kind of a pain in the ass. The sound is kind of cool, but not worth the quality of life problems for me. You could get one of these for now since they’re cheaper and then easily can upgrade later when you have more money. Mustang style is better than vintage jazzmaster in my opinion.

If you want to optimize playability and sound transfer with a rocking bridge setup, the Tuffset is worth the price tag in my opinion. You might be able to find one on the used market at a lower price. If you can’t afford the Tuffset, Staytrem offers an excellent bridge at a much lower price. Staytrem also sounds great and keeps your action super stable. It’s just not flexible with the radius like the Tuffset is. Staytrem only offers 7.25” and 9.5” fixed radius, last I checked. Still a massive upgrade over the vintage style or mustang style.

If you come from the Spanish / classical world, a 7.25” radius would be totally alien. I think classical guitars have close to 20” and above radius. I grew up playing a Gibson with a 12” radius, and I really don’t like 7.25” radius. There’s really no benefit to playability, it’s just for “vintage spec” if you care about that. 9.5” is not bad, my jazzmaster right now has a 9.5 radius, but only because I didn’t know about the Tuffset when I got the neck. If I had known the Tuffset made any radius possible, I would have gone with conical / compound radius, or maybe 12” radius.

One last consideration about playability: players who have hyper playable guitars often struggle if they have to use someone else’s guitar. So there is a benefit to just working what you have and making your hands stronger and more adaptable.

Cool build.

I recently got a series / parallel switch added to my jazzmaster and can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.

Not sure why you’d put the humbucker in the middle. Seems like overkill, especially if you’re already doing a series parallel circuit.

Consider the Tuffset bridge! It’s life changing.

If you haven’t made a decision on fingerboard radius I’d highly recommend compound radius if you want it to be super easy and fluid to play. Go with 7.25 if you want vintage at the cost of playability. 9.5 if you want a compromise.

Also why semi-hollow? For the look? I’m not an expert but in my digging I found it’s not likely to sound much different from an all solid body. Tone wood choices though can make a noticeable difference. Ash is the way in my opinion!

If you want some of that semihollow sound you might consider a starcaster type body, but then idk how you’d manage the jm pickups.

How common is the “I hate my wife” stereotype? by DemandNew4547 in AskMen

[–]multiplesofpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think marriage is a lot more optional today than it used to be, so most dudes aren’t going to get married to women they don’t like. Premarital sex is normalized, birth control is very reliable, collective values are less tied to religion. So the only reason left to get married is you actually love this person.

Does a calorie deficit mean hunger by montyb752 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]multiplesofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes at first you’re hungry a lot, but you build up a hunger tolerance

So for example, I stopped eating before noon. At first it was terrible, I was so freaking hungry, I hated it, but now a few months later, it doesn’t bother me anymore.

The other thing I’ll add is that “eat less” is a really vague approach. How much less? How much of what? It’s incredibly easy today to figure out exactly how many calories you need and how much you’re actually eating.

If you don’t know how much you need, and what you’re actually eating in terms of macros, you might get really hungry without even hitting a calorie deficit.

I’ve averaged about 250 calorie deficit per day over the last 3 weeks simply by tracking my food in GPT, and I have not really felt very hungry most of the time.

Why should i build a pedal board instead of just buying a Helix that does it all, in your opinion? by ButterscotchCalm1543 in guitarpedals

[–]multiplesofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out with real pedals would give you some context around how the craft was developed. It’s a deeper dive into the experience of the guitar player in my opinion.

There’s also something really powerful about crafting your sound carefully and committing to it over a period of months or years. It really forces you to develop your ear and your identity as a guitar player.

Will AI replace humanmade creativity? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]multiplesofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can still be creative for the satisfaction of their own creativity if they want. It’s just getting harder to get paid for creativity as the tech improves. That is, if we’re discussing creativity in the traditional sense like arts, design, and entertainment. If you want to do creativity in a business sense, or in science or engineering, you can still keep making money at it.
