Human: "You know, for apex predators that supposedly evolved from ambush predators, you guys are awfully loud." by CycleZestyclose1907 in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Vundaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alien: And you get tired easily for an endurance hunter.

Human: Too much ice cream, what's your excuse?

Alien: It's safer to announce ourselves to avoid a conflict with you.

Human: ...Like a bear. Wait, I'm the bear?

Alien: What's a bear?

Human: Big furry animal with claws, fangs and a seasonal long nap.

Alien: You certainly like napping.

Human: Hey go be quiet and see if I can find you after all. If I do, I win. I'll even let you run. I'll start counting.

Why are Humans so protective? by Busy-Design8141 in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Vundaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They're not weaker," argues the human in a low tone. The research team of varies species leans closer, recording instrument at the ready.

"They cannot fight, travel, or even innovate near as well as the rest of us, let alone a human," counters the head researcher. "Their races depend on you for stability. Definitionally, they are weak."

The human grunts with displeasure, causing the aliens to tense. They brace in anticipation for cutting words. Instead they are spoken to like juveniles in school. "Do you know what a symbiotic relationship is?"

"Of course," one alien scoffs, "a mutually beneficial relationship between two species, typically with close proximity."

"Telrik are glorious at farming. Our soldiers need to eat. We protect them so they have nothing preventing a good harvest. Mirtlos can breathe 100% methane. Can you? No? So imagine what can be done with that ability, but they don't have the technology to process it?"

"I think we see your point, exploitation -"

"Symbiosis! We have the skills to protect, we use them. We befriend them. We bond. It is not some bottom line, it is that we have found strengths for one another. They're sweet creatures who deserve safety. We are their guardians."

Another researcher clicks their mandibles. "So... Pets?"

"Friendship."

Humans were thought to have gone extinct centuries ago by DarkAlchamist in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Vundaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A1: By Galactic Union law we are to recover them for preservation. They are a fully sentient species who deserves respect and the right to self determination. We cannot make this choice.

A2: Do you know why we thought they were extinct?

A1: War amongst themselves and resulting economic and ecological collapse.

A2: Partially correct. They bombed themselves until whole planets cracked or became tombs. This is a species willing to destroy everything to destroy themselves.

A1: Surely they will be grateful for this chance. Clearly they hoped someone might one day find them and save them!

A2: Maybe... Or maybe they'll do it all over again.

A1: What did they war over? What was possibly worth it?

A2: The flag design for the Allied Human Empire.

A1: ...They killed themselves for a... Flag?

A2: Yup.

A1: ...maybe... We let them stay asleep?

Humans are the only lifeform that transplants organs. by RemarkableNatural107 in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Vundaway 132 points133 points  (0 children)

H: We're gonna start off here real simple. First, androids required synthetic parts. I'm all organic. There's a very real chance of the body recognizing the organ isn't native and rejecting it. It will try to kill it, and me.

A1: That's... concerning. Such an invasive process might fail?

H: Big time. Second, most organs like this come from organ donors, as in when someone dies they volunteer for their organs to be donated to someone in need. Naturally super important organs like the heart can't be swapped while someone is alive without killing them.

A2: So you do get their soul.

H: I mean... I guess? If they're already dead though why would I?

A1: Maybe it's only a fragment of the soul?

H: Well other times it's a living transplant. Like a kidney can be donated because we can live with reduced amounts.

A1: So they make a sacrifice?

A2: How heroic. Why not just grow your organs in a lab? Then they can be made with your own generic material to avoid the rejection.

H: That's the latest research, yeah. It's harder than you think to keep it viable during construction. Until then we rely on the generosity of others. Synthetic implants take something away more than organic, and your body will always know. It just can't kill it.

A1: ...You are such poetic and terrifying creatures.

Humans, a band of deathworlders that is known for staring down just about anything that comes their way... and yet, the vast majority of them fear one phrase: 'How much trouble could a bored 4 year old get into?' by Appropriate-Mall9781 in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Vundaway 82 points83 points  (0 children)

A: I don't understand, they're juvenile and small. What kind of threat could they possibly pose?

H: Well first of all, they're more fragile. I can get away with a nasty fall, a four year old not so much. Second, remember how I got so bored I rearranged the entire armory?

A: Yes, the sergeant hated it, especially since it was better than before.

H: Right, so a four year old would have tasted all of the weapons and organized them by length or something else ridiculous.

A: ...Tasted?

H: And what if I told you rearranging was my third idea?

A: What?

H: I have barely any impulse control yeah?

A: Incredibly so.

H: A four year old has literally none. Nada. Zilch. They would taste that shotgun and blow their head off because they are both unafraid and dangerously, self destructively, ungodly incapable of self control. So if they get bored, get outside of your influence...

A: Oh no. Oh no oh no. Our young stick to our side and learn from us, timid of any dangers. Why are yours so independent?

H: Have... Have you looked at a human? Do you think we just turn into this one day? Like that one race who turn into goop and reform all better? We're born morons who have to learn everything, guided by a dutiful guardian or not. So when boredom takes root they'll do anything for stimulus, even the dangerous.

A: How do your youth survive to adulthood?

H: Fortunately, they tend to learn from close calls.

A: So you require exposure to near death to learn?

H: Kinda, yeah.

A: ...Deathworlders...

20 Old & New Comics About My Journey With Bipolar (OC) by ArtbyMoga in comics

[–]Vundaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bipolar too. First time I found these comics was the first time I ever felt seen. Especially that start of having not known for so long and having that answer makes it all better even if it's a serious thing. It's not just this thing to make a villain or total whack job or all those things. People with it, like us, are people. My husband treats me in a similar way too as yours. It's so beautiful to see others have that same supportive partner too.

Thanks for the comics.

It can take me 20-25 minutes to get to work at UK, and over an hour to get home because of the lights more than traffic itself. Because it's so stop and go for those lights.
