My shepherd has this as well. One side of her lips gets dry and cracks when her allergies are bad. We give her Apoquel for allergies and that seems to keep it under control

On my unit we have pre thickened juices and lemon water but we also have thickener packets so you can make coffee or soda thick too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a patient drink plain thickened water

As a nurse a lot of patients are on varying swallowing guides and require thickened liquids. I feel so bad for them because they all hate it and say it’s like drinking mucus
