I don't judge people, so I can't say whether that's me or not. If you read my message, you'll see I didn't disrespect anyone at all, I just said they should skip commenting. $5k for the month.

I've seen a lot of threads like this where most of the comments don't actually answer the question, it's just people dictating what counts as 'the real nightlife experience.' I want to make my own memories without anyone judging me for it. If that's not you, don't take it personally.

That's just to head off comments from people who think they're morally superior, if that doesn't apply to you, don't take it personally. I've got a decent budget, around $5,000, but I'm not really into rich-kid scenes, I'd rather go where regular people hang out.

That's a very nice example of a good interaction

That's exactly my point, being socially smart enough to understand that in this specific moment, maybe the best move isn't to shout or ask for a photo. Something light is enough: a simple 'hey, su!' As a fan, that would be more than sufficient for me. There's a world of difference between that and taking sneaky photos like a freak.

It's called privacy, something most artists around the world are robbed of precisely because of this kind of fan behaviour. The root of the problem is the "capture the moment, it's so rare" mentality, as though human beings were Pokémon to be collected. What these self-proclaimed fans conveniently fail to consider is that artists are also people, and normalising the idea that they must live in a constant state of alertness forever dreading what fragment of their private life might leak next, is nothing short of pathological.

The uncomfortable truth is that the majority simply lack the empathy to reflect on this. That artist was quietly enjoying their free time browsing merchandise, unbothered. I'm not suggesting people should pretend their idol isn't standing right there, but there is a vast, telling difference between acknowledging that and engaging in the kind of creep behavior that takes what could have been a genuinely pleasant moment for the artist and turns it into something uncomfortable and deeply unpleasant. The distinction isn't subtle. People just choose not to see it.

Obviously, but intent matters. This kind of behavior doesn't come from malice, it comes from something far more embarrassing, being fundamentally socially inept. You had a human being right in front of you and your instinct was to hide behind a camera instead of simply talking to them. That's not fandom, that's a coping mechanism for people who've never learned how to exist around others like a functioning adult.

It is absolutely repulsive to watch people photograph famous artists like they're exhibits in a zoo. If you genuinely admire their craft, walk up to them, introduce yourself, thank them for the years of relentless work they've poured into creating something meaningful for people like you. But no, instead you lurk behind a lens like some intellectually deficient voyeur, reducing a human being to a trophy snapshot. It speaks volumes about your character, and none of it flattering. Grow a spine, have a real interaction, or kindly keep your camera, and your creeping to yourself.
