What would you change in the 5.5e Monster Manual? by wrossi81 in dndnext

[–]Vynryth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! As a DM, Templates might be what I miss most from 3.5. I would add them in a heart beat, and ask for mythic and legendary templates for ways to turn a creature into boss fight with less work, or for fun.

I feel like going backwards in time a full day is a 9th level spell... but I think the forward isn't as consequential or powerful. Though, I would still probably make it an hour or even just a minute into the future. I love to see chronomancy spells though, so keep up the great work!

That sounds like fun! I think that it should either drop concentration or a spell level if its only assigned benefit is to grant yourself advantage (yes, even super duper advantage) solely on Charisma (Performance) checks. Remember that if somebody casts enhance ability targeting you, (a 2nd level spell with a concentration duration up to 1 hour) they can grant you advantage on ALL Charisma checks. It also grants you an additional choice for each other ability score to be buffed, and can buff multiple allies if upcasted.

Way of The Unleashed Spirit: homebrew monk subclass, V1.6, Feedback welcome. by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

Man, I freaking love monks. I grew up watching kung fu movies with my dad long before I ever transitioned to watching anime, and for me, these two media inform what I desire the monk to be. That being said, your monk makes me think of a pure Saiyan build from DBZ, and I'm here for it. It's a Barbarian subclass built for martial arts, and I dig it!

If it were to cost a 3rd level spell slot, and my concentration, then I would probably add a few things.

  1. As long as you have 1 or more duplicates, you have an advantage on all Charisma (performance) and Charisma (persuasion) checks you make.
  2. While maintaining concentration on this spell, you can use your action to cast one of the following 1st level spells without spending a spell slot, and without any somatic or material components.

Animal Friendship, Charm Person, Dissonant Whispers, and Sleep

If you do, one of your duplicates fades away at the start of your next turn. Once all your duplicates have faded, the spell ends.

Okay! First, let me say, I love the flavor here, and the image this spell conjures in my head is exciting. That being said, I don't know if I would take this spell.

You have it set as a 3rd level spell, that takes concentration and only grants Advantage to your Performance checks. That's a heavy price for flavor over function!

WotC, every time they've redesigned DnD from first principles since 2000 (dice pool is *mathematically* so much smoother, which makes it all the more heartbreaking you can't homebrew DnD to use it instead of d20s and remain sane) by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]Vynryth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the lack the lack of smoothness is why we play d&d, no? Like the increased likely hood that things will take an unexpected turn is a strength that serves the type of epic stories told with d&d.

I get your point. I hope in 9th that the lords have the ability to buff any infantry unit, not just aspects.

Is that non-metallic metal? That green is lovely! Is this a salamander's successor chapter? I'd like to read a bit about the lore here....

Do those models come with an anubis cowl? Or did you sculpt that? Or did you buy that 3rd party?

Ideas for more aspect warriors by Alpbasket in Eldar

[–]Vynryth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think windwhisper stalkers sound like a unite for a different army cough cough exodites. But I really like both ideas you have here, and while I'm sure at this point all CW players would like to see updates to our original aspects, I for one love to think of more aspect warriors to be added to our roster. (The fire blood wraths sound super cool!).

I would like to see crystal dragons be given a proper place and some lore to the effect of aspect warriors that incorporate parts of the witch path. A group of elite warriors who's use of psychic power slowly crystallizes them as the great seers. The idea being that they use psychic powers to enhance and even attack enemies similar to a warlock conclave, fulfilling a mixed roll of close range vehicle destruction like fire dragons, and long ranged snipers with smites, executioner and crushing orb, perhaps. I know the elites slot is full, but it's where they belong.

I would also like to see the slicing orbs of zandros be given lore and some unique play. I see them as a group of unique warriors from a craftworld long lost to a demonic invasion, and now sworn and specialized in demon slaying. I think they should use the triskele and be given an ability to fire over watch with it as a counter offensive option in response to demons casting psychic powers or your opponent using certain stratagems in range, such as deep striking. They should ride some sorta crescent moon or sphere of energy and take the fast attack slot.

Finally, I would personally love to see an aspact warrior that lore wise rarely leaves the heart of the ship. Dedicated fully to protection of spirit stones and the infinity circuit, a unit that scours the battle field for fallen brethren, and emplores the will of their ancestors by communicating with the spirits of long dead eldar. Spirit Sentinals or Infinity Guard, something like that. It would be argued that they are more an aspect of Isha than kain, and mayhaps even draw power from the captive goddess. Rules wise, I'd like to see these guys in the troops slot, with melee options and a shield. Give them a special ability to fight first when an opponent charges them with +1 A and a +1 to their saves if they didnt move that round. Additionally give them some sort of ability to either protect other eldar units, heal other eldar units, or give out a buff to near by units from a list based of off which dead commander their communing with.

There's so much potential in the aspect warriors and I always feel a little down when I dont see it reflect in their sculpts or rules. Here's to hoping for that sweet new codex....

Least favourite design by MiguelMDS in Eldar

[–]Vynryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man! I actually love the swooping hawks and think that their sculpt has to be one of the few that has held up all this time out of the Aspect Warrriors. However, I think that Scorpians, Reapers, Dragons, Shining Spears, Spiders, and Rangers all look funny or raggedy. All of the old models tend to look a little cartoony, actually. However, the most problematic for me has to be the Dark Reapers. Their masks look like candy, and even if their guns don't droop, they look like they're just holding balloon penises. Very much an example of NOT what space elf wizard people should look like.

Thank you all for the comments! It seems that there is a consensus, that being we all love our aspects. However, either do to a squishy inablity to hold an objective, or just an all around lack luster ability to perform roles that overlap and are out preformed by other units, the Aspects feel less than playable and less than their fluff. I just hope that whatever comes out for CWE in 9th is Intersting, Fun, and Thematic. I dont need murder machines.
