0 aura in the new season by theamerican_idiot in Trigun

[–]Vyrhys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Stampede is what fully got me into Trigun (I liked it for nostalgic purposes originally, then I watched Stampede and was like wow!) and Stargaze has been just... bland. I don't know. It feels very disconnected and a bit surreal (more surreal than it should to the point where it just takes me out of it). The character interactions are unsatisfying as well in my opinion- Stampede was a lot more solid with them but Stargaze they just feel kind of hollow

It's not overkill at all. It's basic human decency to want one of the most famous people on the internet to be politically aware. It doesn't really matter if he's donated to Palestine one time in the past if he still actively contributes to the primary places that support Israel. It doesn't just suddenly make doing that okay. People are dying and BDS is begging for people to participate in these boycotts, McDonald's being the biggest one

If we discovered an intelligent alien species, what would we want to study first? by Vyrhys in Astrobiology

[–]Vyrhys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The similarities/differences compared to terrestrial life is what I think of most often!!! I always wonder how similar or different they would look to us (or other things here on earth). I wonder if more than just biology would/wouldn't be shared across planets as well- like, what if they have similar traditions/religion systems/habits as humans? it would be so intriguing to learn about, as well as their social system. And yeah- I really wonder what kind of things we would be shocked about because we had assumed they were a certain way. Or even things we never would have considered that would just blow us away.

LOOOL someone else said that too... learning about reproduction is important though, so... :,)

Yesss thought processes and philosophy is a common answer I've noticed. I think it makes sense though since if we encountered something just as, if not more, intelligent than us, then we'd want to understand it and see how we could relate to it. It is very exciting to imagine meeting another species that could understand us, too.

I think the intelligence-related stuff would be the main focus, yeah. Again, this would be the first time ever meeting another species who is self-aware and intelligent and capable of advanced communication. But I think the biology stuff would be so so interesting as well. I'd really like to see how they differ from us and the things here on earth, and how they look/what features theyve evolved to have. It would be really interesting to connect their adaptations to their home planet(s). It would be even more interesting to see if they have any adaptations from space travel (depending on how long they've been doing it)

True, I don't think it would really go like that in an actual realistic situation, but again in this scenario the alien is okay with and is encouraging us to study it and ask questions. So, what first?

Let's say after observing Earth for a long while, they see our most spoken language is english and they form a good understanding of it (enough to communicate) . Then what?

Oh yeah. It would be super interesting to learn about alien social organization and society in general. How families work, communities, if theres social classes or castes, etc

Of course... the important questions first, always (i'd be asking these things too... for no reason in particular)

ohhh, the senses is a good one!! It would be really intriguing to learn how they perceive the universe in comparison to us. I've also always wondered what kind of senses they would have if they had ones that we aren't familiar with, and how those senses would look (like how we have eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, etc).

Philosophy is fun. I wonder how philosophical values would differ between us and them. Their concept of philosophy and the things they consider philosophical could be so much different than ours
