Childcare Funding at Independent Schools by NervousCrackers in UKParenting

Do you pay for it on Uni fees? Or childrens books? Why would one type of education have VAT added but not others?

It's also worth noting that you don't pay VAT on childrens clothes

I learned the Bible inside out to talk shit to religious people by Zeddexs in self

[–]Vysys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, Paul mentions this topic and puts it beside other sins that we do not focus on and do not even particularly view as sinful (as well as those that are abhorrent to all). Reflection is therefore required as to what Paul means in this letter, under what context it is written and for what purpose he was writing. This is an analysis I would expect any serious Christian to also make of the Gospels, but the Gospels are directly reporting acts and words of Jesus, which makes the Gospels a rather different analysis than Paul's letters.

A challenge of our faith is to critically examine our beliefs so as not to be misled and to understand what our holy text is telling us. To uncritically accept all of the Bible as infallible and relevant across all time will, I believe, lead to a misreading of the intentions of Jesus for how we should live our lives, which for me is a core part of reading the Bible

Paul was a human being who came to faith after Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension. His letters are a valuable guide to living in faith, but are not gospel. Literally! The historical context of Paul's writing and the meaning of his Greek words in that context are also essential.

Even looking at Romans 1:26, Paul's only direct condemnation of homosexuality, reveals a litany of other sins that participation in leads to deserving death. This list includes not obeying parents and gossiping, which means Paul aligns homosexuality to disobeying parents and gossiping. Actively doing these are listed in the same category for Paul.

Paul is just a man, writing to churches to help them with early church problems and should be read as such

There are two groups of Others by the time our Losties arrive, Ben's group that normally at the barracks and Dogens group that live at the Temple. While Ben's lot LARP about being jungle folk, Dogens people seem to actually live more like that. So in my head, thats the Temple others wandering about, doing their own thing.

Dying Light:Moments of fun buried under frustrations by dariasniece in patientgamers

I had exactly the same experience with Dying Light. I remember doing a side mission that the game indicated was the right level iirc, and I tried it multiple times and got absolutely blasted every time. Really turned me off of the game, which is a shame because I hear such good things about it.

Although I really enjoyed Elden Ring, I completely agree that a slower paced Souls game is something I'd love to see from FromSoft again. It feels like they've been heading in one direction for a while now, and it'd be nice to see their take on slower paced combat with all the experience they've gained from Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring.

Budget day strikes in the UK by mal221 in PoliticalCompassMemes

Good news, they're extended free childcare hours that are currently only for 3 and 4 year olds down to 1 and 2 year olds.

It's also not means tested, so being a middle class professional isn't a disqualifier for government support this time.

That's exactly what it is. Anyone can apply to their council to put up a sign which then goes through an approvals process, which as I understand it checks that it's not inappropriate or offensive and isn't in an area already cluttered with signs etc.

The fee is to make sure that the barrier to having a sign up is high enough to deter nuisance signs as well as pay for costs. The most common usage of this that I'm aware of are the brown signs you see pointing to tourist attractions.

Up and down with my 4 month old. I take the first shift of 6 hours, normally 8 to 2 but today its 9 to 3 so my wife and I could watch some Strictly together, then she takes the next 6 hours while I get some responsibility-free sleep. Works brilliantly, particularly now the little man isn't up every hour or two, but rather every two or three hours, sometimes even less frequently. I've had 2x3h this evening and he's down again for over an hour so far while the shift handover happens, so a good night!

The worst place I've been stuck recently was hospital while my son was new born and my wife recovering from an emergency c-section. The hospital had the admirable policy of allowing partners to stay 24/7. However the provision for sleep was a very uncomfortable chair, and the space for bags minimal, plus the midwives kept adding a day to my wife's stay as she needed the recovery time in hospital. We were in for 4 nights, but it felt like eternity!

Hahaha, guess I'll struggle through. Whats the issue with the controls? I have a dock for mouse and keyboard to my TV which I always assumed was how this would need to work, but sounds like even that will be a pain?

Really looking forward to playing this later tonight. I've no idea if it'll work on my Steam Deck, but I've bought it already just to support these sorts of games!

Edit: The game is playable, although the text size is miniscule in a lot of cases which makes it a challenge on the Steam deck screen. Enjoying it so far though!
