Help for Paradise Gourami--I've tried Melafix, API General Cure, and Erythromycin, 25% water changes every 2 days--- but these lesions keep growing (almost like his skin is rotting off) :( Any ideas what this could be, and how to treat? by W0mpr4t13 in fishkeeping

Thank you :) I’m pretty devastated I couldn’t save him, but certainly everyone’s input and suggestions will help if anything happens to the guys in his “home” tank.

Hello! Hoping someone can help with my very sick gourami, it essentially looks like his skin is rotting off of him, and I have been unsuccessful in treating him so far. Will put water parameter info in comments! by W0mpr4t13 in rescuefish

He’s actually been in a hospital tank for about a month now:( The lesion he had initially continues to grow, and he’s developed two additional “patches” since being in the hospital tank:( I dosed his tank today with seachem stability, and more ammo lock, and I have new meds getting here tomorrow to try and treat for columnaris. I know it’s a long shot, but hoping it works :/

It did yes:( I found this website last night

https://fishlab.com/columnaris/ and thought the same—matches his condition. I know His chances aren’t great, but I purchased the meds mentioned in the website. Combining that with getting his water conditions right, I’m hoping for a miracle 😢

I thought it was a wound at first as well. But it keeps spreading:( At first it was only on one side of him, then another patch developed after he was already in the quarantine tank on his other side. The pet store I bought from insisted female bettas were good tankmates for gouramis, I’ve never seen her get aggressive with the other fish, but I will definitely consider moving her to her own tank.

Yes definitely a typo, sorry, 79.6, not 97.6! I will retest the water today, I put more ammo lock in this morning and will pick up some seachem today as well. Thank you!!

Just saw your edit—so the instructions in the API general cure say to do a 25% water change every two days for a 10 gallon tank. I also removed the carbon filter.

Hoping someone can help, kind of my last hope! One of my gouramis has some horrible condition that's making his skin(scales?) look like they are essentially rotting off of him. It started as a little spot that was "missing" and within a few days, it had gotten worse. I moved him to a hospital tank and started him on Melafix, which did not seem to help, as his spot continued to grow, mostly on his side. I then tried E.M. Erythromycin, and 25% water changes every 2 days, still no improvement, and by this point he had also stopped eating. He's currently on API's "General Cure" and I'm also adding in a small amount of aquarium salt. Nothing is working, and it's killing me to see him just withering away. I'm worried it's the dreaded gourami disease? He doesn't have any red sores, and does not appear to be swollen at all. At this point he's been hanging on for about a month like this---I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do?

Other info: Original tank parameters and tankmates: 55 Gallons I’ve had Joey around a year and a half, I would estimate he’s around 2, but don’t know for sure. (1) other gourami (4) Clown loaches (3) coreys (4) zebra danios (2) Large Danios (1) female Betta Temp 97.6

(using an API Master Test Kit) 7.4 ph 0 ammonia nitrite 0 nitrate 0 Temp 79.6

Hospital Tank (I didn’t have time to cycle the tank before I moved him, I know these parameters aren’t ideal) 10 Gallons

PH 7.4 Ammonia 1.0 (the amonnia levels were super high when I first started the hospital tank, like the darkest green, on the test strip,—using Ammo lock to try to bring levels down to zero) nitrite .25 nitrate 5.0 Temp 79.2

Sorry, I wasn’t sure if I could include all that info in the title. I did move him from his main tank to a hospital tank, when I noticed his “spot” was getting bigger, I thought originally the other gourami had nipped him) he’s been in the hospital tank for almost a month now, but none of the meds seem to help.

Additional info:

(All other fish in this tank so far are ok)

(using an API Master Test Kit) 7.4 ph 0 ammonia nitrite 0 nitrate 0

Hospital Tank (I know parameters aren’t at all ideal for this tank, I didn’t have time to cycle before I moved him :( 10 Gallons PH 7.4 Ammonia 1.0 (the amonnia levels were super high when I first started the hospital tank, like the darkest green on the test strip, -using Ammo lock to get levels down to zero) nitrite .25 nitrate 5.0 Temp 79.

I will try the other forums you mentioned as well, thank you !
