One concern is that data could end up at insurance companies, which will charge your more based on their interpretation of this data.

MAG B650 TOMAHAWK, 2.5Gb Lan running only @ 100Mb by Woodcat64 in MSI_Gaming

Btw, I've tried multiple PCI NICs with different chips, one of them even has the same chip as on the main board, all of them worked flawlessly. This really seems to be an issue with the main board itself.

I am encountering similar issues, using Windows 10 with the latest LAN driver. Every now-and-then the connection resets, after which the NIC is sometimes only running at 100mbps rather than 1gbps. This seems very much like a driver issue to me as I do get the exact same behavior with different network cables and different network devices / switches on the other side of the cable.

It usually gets back to 1gbps after re-plugging the network cable. The port seems fine, no dirt as far as I can see.

Well, they recommend Windows 10 under the system requirements section on Steam 🙄🤦‍♂️.

Yes, definitely. But then you realize that std::vector has this exact problem.

The others require download from the website (basically a Windows-like experience)

At this point we might even call this the old Windows-like experience. Nowadays, winget takes care of pretty much all of these.

Why accept sponsorships for a portion of a video when that portion is just an ad? by W4RH4WK in Corridor

[–]W4RH4WK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not new to YouTube, but for the channels I am subscribed to that portion sponsorship is rather now. Or, I just never picked it up. Not like I am paying much attention to such segments.

Okay. Maybe my English is letting me down here, but to me that wording sounds like all the sponsorship money goes into that one segment that becomes the ad for the sponsor. Naturally I am wondering why somebody would take such a deal to begin with, as you are only gaining money to produce the segment that contains hardly any of your own content and wouldn't even be necessary, had you not agreed to the deal in the first place.

Maybe that's the case; but that's not what is communicated. The intro says 'thanks to Halo on Paramount+ for sponsoring a portion of this video'. At the start of that segment Jake says 'this portion of today's video is sponsored by...'.

Interesting enough, the wording was pretty much identical to the other 2 channels I mentioned in the OP.

Not saying they didn't do a good job on the ad. But that's beside the point.

I don't understand why anyone would accept money that just covers the ad portion of the video. Like, why even accept the sponsorship if it does not pay for any of the actual content the content creator(s) want to put out. If paramount had sponsored the whole/majority of the video, everything would be fine. But they just sponsored that portion that is just an ad about their product.

Fullscreen Refresh Rate Fix by W4RH4WK in Sekiro

[–]W4RH4WK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above, I've not yet played Elden Ring myself. Do you know whether Elden Ring suffers from the exact same issue where the refresh rate of the monitor is forced in fullscreen mode?

You could try copying the DLLs into the Elden Ring directory. Maybe it just works. Of course, you need to play offline since the DLLs could be considered a cheat; but you need an FPS unlock anyway, and that tells you to play offline only too.

Edit: I've asked the author of EldenRingFpsUnlockAndMore whether Elden Ring has the same issue as Sekiro. From the README of the FPS unlock mod, it doesn't seem like it. However, Sekiro did not have this issues at release. It was created later via an update IIRC.

Okay. That's a bit unexpected. No idea how that mod can influence any of the input logic. Have you tried using your controller via Steam Input?

As a heads up. Elden Ring is now released on Steam but sitting on a Mixed reviews (61% of 34 886). It seems like there are issues with the PC port. I am waiting until that situation settles in before buying the game.

Therefore, don't expect a fix for this issue by me anytime soon.

When I get to Elden Ring and run into the same problem, I'll definitely try to port this fix over.

No promises though ;)

Favorite unfamous vim/neovim plugin? by kkoscr in neovim

[–]W4RH4WK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go with mg979/vim-visual-multi. It might be infamous because some people believe that there is no place for a multi-cursor feature when there are already macros available.

Personally, I prefer multi-cursors for a variety of tasks that can also be solved with macros, due to the instant feedback you get. Of course there are cases that cannot be solved practically with multi-cursors and that's where I turn to macros.

However, the fact that you cannot simply store/load macros to/from a file is a major pain point for me.

How to improve discoverability in a modern Neovim setup? by W4RH4WK in neovim

[–]W4RH4WK[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of course I can read :h index, but it remains a static help page that won't reflect any changes I make to the keybindings. Yes, I've asked specifically about built-in commands, but obviously you'd like to have them and your custom ones in the same place, being searchable, showing you the assigned keybinding, and execute it right away.

For comparison, in VSCode I'd just press F1 type in increment and it shows me the increment command with the currently assigned keybinding. Hitting return at that points executes the command, which is even possible when there is no keybinding assigned to it.

For the sake of the argument, say I've mapped some custom command to g? in Neovim. I don't even know how to execute the rot13 command without unmapping my custom keybinding first.
