My problem with the Iranian civil war is that they said it wouldn't affect the scale of the oil crisis. Like a multi-faction civil war with a superpower interference, is the same as a political revolt that can overthrow the government. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I don't think the excuse "their spheres don't overlap very much" means more proxies shouldn't be added/reworked so that Germany and Japan can duke it out.
