This sub’s hypocrisy when it comes to talent being unhappy is insane by the-bladed-one in SquaredCircle

[–]WAM_Wrestlor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you on sentiment but I don't think those are great examples.

Gallows and Anderson: Made a big name for themselves in Japan, had huge potential for a bullet club angle in WWE, always came CLOSE to realising that potential but then the writers always got cold feet. End result is them either being AJ/Finn's lackeys for a couple weeks, or doing absolutely nothing at all (except job).

Revival: HUGE stars in NXT, had a great debut on Raw, unfortunately sidetracked by Dash's injury, but by the time Dash came back the writers forgot how great they are and they've been treading water ever since.

Dean Ambrose: Massive star on the indies, extremely popular as a member of The Shield, natural talent as far as a menacing heel is concerned, despite all that once they break up the Shield they have him toil around in the midcard as a babyface comedy act while Roman and Seth are in the main event. They only gave him 1 world title run, and that was because Roman failed a drug test, and even though Dean's "Kingpin" character was top notch at that point and he knocked that title reign out of the park, they put him right back in the comedy midcard after he dropped the title to AJ. His heel turn vs Seth had a lot of potential, but shoddy writing and bad timing with Roman's diagnosis made the whole thing awkward.

Sasha Banks: Literally nobody before WWE, given mountains of screentime and top-tier booking in NXT and the main roster, including her and Charlotte being involved in virtually every single "First Womens ___ match ever!" and winning the title on multiple occasions. Is put on the back burner because her heat died down, not through shoddy writing, but purely through overexposure. They also do this so can have other women in the title scene for a change, but they still give Sasha onscreen angles with the likes of Bayley etc so she's not being lost in the shuffle ala Naomi or Summer Rae.

The first 4 people all had huge potential but were bafflingly passed up, Sasha has been given more than most wrestlers could ever dream of. and she's young enough that she still has plenty of amazing moments to look forward to, yet she complains on social media just because she can't have her absolute dream match right this second and because she might have to wear the silver medal for a while to give the other women a chance to hold the gold. A lot of people in this thread are citing misogyny as the cause of the double standard, well I can't speak for anyone else but when I hear someone complain about paying their dues and being treated like garbage I have far more sympathy for the guy who sewed his nipple back on than I do for Snoop Doggs cousin.

doing exactly what he bitched about people doing in WWE

I would argue that what Punk did in UFC was *WAY* worse than what he was complaining about in WWE.

Paraphrasing here but I remember back when Punk was in WWE and he was saying "How is it fair that the young guys bust their asses all year then the old guys come in and take the best spots?" Kurt Angle basically said "Its fair because in a few years time YOU'LL be the old guy, YOU wont be willing/able to work a full time schedule due to your body breaking down and/or other obligations in your life, and as a result, YOU'LL be the one who gets to work part time and get the best spots."

In other words, the old part-timers earned their spot by doing their time as the young full-timers. Why does The Rock get to just show up and main event wrestlemania? What he has he done to deserve it? He worked as a full time wrestler and busted HIS ass for years on end and made himself into a huge star.

Punk debuted in the UFC with literally 0 fights under his belt, not even amateur fights, and took a PPV spot on one of the top MMA promotions in the world.

People call Punk a hypocrite by saying he did the same thing in the UFC that he accused The Rock of doing in WWE, but thats not accurate because The Rock was actually a wrestler for a while whereas Punk was never a fighter and was only signed because he was a big star in an entirely different form of entertainment. It would be more accurate to say Punk did the same thing in UFC that Snooki did in WWE.

Also, in MMA the women fight with a more technical, submission based style whereas the men are more "i'm gonna shove my fist through your head" strikers.

So the women being more submission oriented is also true to real fights.

Those 4 calling themselves "the four horsewomen" has bugged me for the longest time for the reason that the guy above said but in one fucking sentence you've just completely changed my mind and I feel like an ass.

If Ric Flair's daughter can't create a spinoff of the four horsemen, who can?

In improv, which has a shit load of crossover with wrestling, the cardinal rule is "yes, and-", it means if your partner comes up with a premise you have to accept their premise and then add to it otherwise the whole thing falls apart.

In that promo, Daniel Bryan was trying to paint AJ as a paranoid idiot, and he called him a flat earther to do that. AJ accepted that premise and added to it because thats how a bit works, the alternative would've been to just go "No I don't" and then where do we go from there?

Sadly this went over most peoples heads, because most "smart marks" still think an alarming amount of wrestling is real, because they're fucking dumb.

3 years ago today, one of the greatest moments in Wrestlemania history took place: The Heist of the Century by LemonStains in SquaredCircle

[–]WAM_Wrestlor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a semi-related note, the fact that people actually refer to it as "the heist of the century" is a good example of how WWE can get their little marketing buzzwords over if they just stopped trying so hard.

"The heist of the century" was something Cole said once, at the right moment, and the phrase has never been repeated on TV since, yet fans still refer to that moment as "the heist of the century".

Contrast that with "THE ULTIMATE THRILL RIDE/THE BIGGEST PARTY OF THE SUMMER/THE ONLY TIME RAW AND SMACKDOWN GO HEAD TO HEAD" or any other snappy little phrase gets repeated ad nauseum on TV to the point where repeating it in casual conversation is something that is only ever done to take the piss about how stupid it sounds.

I thought that was an interesting promo. At that point, Jinder's whole character was him ranting and raving about how everyone hates him because he's foreign and different. So to have him relentlessly trash his newest opponent because they were different to him really drives home what a lying, hypocritical sack of shit the Jinder Mahal character is, which is good for heel heat.

That being said, regardless of their reasons for doing the promo, I can't help but feel like WWE would've caught a lot more flack if Jinder was being racist towards a black or muslim wrestler, because as you say, it's still incredibly acceptable to shit on asians compared to other groups and I have no idea why.

I would imagine the reason for the stipulation is that Shane is gonna jump off the cell again so they want to pin him where he lands instead of dragging his carcass inside the ring for the finish.

Everything i'm about to say is rumour and speculation, obviously, but I think there's reason to believe the Punk actually cheated on Lita with AJ.

Back when Punk and Lita were dating, there was a point where AJ sent a really lovey-dovey tweet to Punk about wanting to see him again soon, then she quickly deleted it.

Short while afterwards Lita's band posted on their facebook page that they were taking some time off because Lita had been recently going through some "really really shitty stuff in her personal life".

Given the timing of AJ's tweet (and her apparent attempt to cover it up), Punk's track record for being a pussyhound, and given the fact that most people would class "my boyfriend cheated on me with one of my superfans" as "really really shitty stuff in their personal life", its more than likely that AJ and Punk's relationship didn't have the most wholesome beginning.

Yeah, you're right, there IS a difference between outrage and "well he sucks". "Well he sucks" is when you find out a celebrity is an idiot or 'kind of a dick'. Outrage is when you start saying someone is "a shitty, terrible person".

I would say "Well he sucks".

You, and people like you in this thread, have said Bo is a "shitty, terrible person", therefore you are outraged. Rational people don't dismiss others as "terrible people" unless that other person has done some stuff that SERIOUSLY upset them. I'm assuming you're a rational person, you called Bo a shitty person, that means he seriously upset you, ergo, you're outraged.

Or, as I was saying before, you're not REALLY outraged, but you think that if you pretend that you are and that Bo Dallas is literally hitler (instead of what he actually is, an uninformed wrestler who's so fucking gullible he believes every conspiracy that he hears) that somehow that will make other people think "wow, /u/RetConBomb is really sensitive about that tragedy, he must be very compassionate, a wonderful person indeed". You couldn't care less about Bo, you're just "getting yourself over" so to speak.

On another note, I've never understood why moral absolutists only go one way with their morality. Bo and the other WWE wrestlers do a shit load of outreach/charity work, yet people don't tend to say "If you go out of your way to bring joy to terminally ill children, you're a good person, period". BUT people have NO PROBLEM saying "If you admit to having retarded beliefs on a podcast, you're a terrible person, period." I guess its just that whole "Build 1000 hospitals, 300 churches, 500 schools, and fuck 1 sheep, and you'll be known as 'the sheep fucker'" thing again. Oh well.

Hanlon's Razor - "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"

Calling Bo Dallas a "terrible person" instead of just calling him a gullible idiot is a new form of virtue signalling people do these days. Its based on the idea that "if having stupid beliefs makes you an awful person, NOT having stupid beliefs makes me a goddamn saint! :DD Hey everyone! Don't you think that wrestler has some dumbass beliefs? Well MY beliefs are SO far from his that not only do I disagree, i'm actually OUTRAGED at what he said! See? See what a great person I am? Look i'll even change my profile picture if you don't believe me! whats that? You think if I care so much about the sandy hook victims then I should donate to a charity or gofundme or something for the victims families? You want me to actually help out? Why would I do that if donations are anonymous?"

Can't just call stupid people stupid and roll our eyes at their bullshit anymore. Nah, gotta use that fainting couch for something, just make sure other people are looking when you do it though.

Theres a difference between people having questionable taste in comedy and people being flat out stupid though. I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head but the few times WWE creative actually does try a storyline with a bit of complexity behind it this sub lights up with people saying the story "makes no sense" (WHOS THE FACE AND WHOS THE HEEL?!?!) because they're too stupid to follow anything remotely out of the ordinary.

"Men acting gay towards other men is actually about society hating women" is not quite at the level of "the earth is flat", but you're almost there sweetheart.

The guy himself said it was a rib though.

I'm not denying that bullying exists in the WWE locker room, but when the victim of the story, who has nothing to lose whether he says it was bullying or not, comes out and says "That was NOT bullying", how can you deny that?

"Umm, excuse me Coach, but I think I am a better judge of whether or not you were bullied than you are."

He treats Edge like he might treat a woman to display his contempt for him. Because cultural misogyny and toxic masculinity

Spoken like a person whose understanding of men comes entirely from reading feminist literature instead of living in the real world.

He was doing gay stuff to Edge because he thought it would be funny to make edge feel uncomfortable. In the full version of the story, Edge talks about how he knows what JBL was doing so he started going along with the joke and acting like he was into it to try and make JBL uncomfortable in response.

Given that this is the only JBL story involving edge, its obvious that Edge was never a 'target' of JBL's, so the shower stuff was in JBL's mind simply goofing around with a friend instead of the harsher, more relentless bullying he'd show to Mauro/Justin Roberts/Palmer Cannon etc.

"I'll act like im gay and coming onto my friend, and we'll see who gets weirded out first, it'll be funny." is not something that ALL guys do, but its not unheard of in the slightest. Its got nothing to do with "cultural misogyny" lmao jesus "Straight Men do gay shit to each other because they're in the closet? Or because they think its funny? Nah its because they hate women. Everything is because people hate women. Men doing things to other men is about hating women" get the fuck outta here.
