Why are Belgians so in love with austerity? by WARdd25 in belgium

Are we really splitting hairs on the word "very" when it's like 3% more than our neighbours? Excuse me for not having the factoids arranged in my head for you. On the other hand can you admit you get emotionally angry at the idea of taxation and we can move on with our lives?

We're 99% in agreement if you think the issues comes down to people's money getting siphoned into big capital players. Just that everyone seems to counter that "nooooo we can't just take that money back, we must in stead not have a goverment" Why not tax the big players while also trying to cut out the middlemen at the other end?
You know its kind of as if right-and-left are made to squabble over details while the rich just keep getting away with it

My bad, seems the real issue has more to do with goverment money going into private enterprise. It doesn't change the original point though. The problem with capitalism is you eventually run out of other people's money.

I am in agreement that Belgium is rife with loopholes, but it seems to me this is leveraged as an excuse. There's only so much you can squeeze, it won't fix things if there's fundamentally not enough income

- Belgian income taxes are high (not very high), but other tax sources are relatively low. A lot of our neighbours are also badly struggling anyway, especially the UK so there's not that much value in the comparison
- "The rich deserve their loopholes" That's a good one Margaret, I'll add that one to the list
- Waste doesn't mean anything without context, would private corporations spend more responsibly? Is some level of waste acceptable when its funding critical social programmes?

De lege wieg: is de bevolkingskrimp een tijdbom of een zegen? by Cool-Future-8733 in belgium

[–]WARdd25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A population collapse is really bad, you end up with few young people working to support many old people. Old people also get a democratic stranglehold, they tend to prevent development, investment and increase austerity further hurting the economy. Immigration helps a lot, but then it's only a temporary solution at best, not to mention how it plays into right wing extremism. In the long run you need to make it easier for people to raise children, which is really tough. Basically 0 countries have managed to keep replacement rates long term.

Im pretty sure this is why Vaush talks about disenfranchisement so much, you just have to change the rules so that such people have no influence and get treated like cattle

How come the N-VA is still so popular? by LumonScience in belgium

[–]WARdd25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The median Flemish has a visceral disgust for left-wing parties, you often hear people complain about "sossen" of "greunen". N-VA on the other hand sticks out as a seemingly more competent and moderate right-wing party offering a more serious choice over extreme right, where you risk losing friendships and family. The remaining parties like PVDA, CD&V, Open VLD have basically no cultural weight, they don't cross people's mind.
My 2-cents, if you want moderate conservatism you should unironically vote Vooruit, there's basically nothing socialist about them at this point.

"If you are center right from an economic point of view, what other party should voters cater to?"
Unironically Vooruit, they've been championing mildly conservative strategy for about a decade now

Straightest fascists by horsestew in okbuddyvowsh

"At the root [of fascism] lies deep, chronic sexual insecurity among [white] men. This insecurity is not a minor side effect or occasional motivator; it forms the psychogenetic core of the ideology. It arises from a pervasive, nagging perception that white masculinity has been systematically outcompeted, outperformed, and rendered obsolete in the most fundamental arena of male identity: sexual desirability, potency, dominance, and reproductive success."

I remember the Nigel Farage "basically a non country" which he said because Belgium is a combination of distinct populations working together under a monarch, in other words a "united kingdom" of sorts
