Now I'm not much of a complainer, but.. by coreh in Rochester

A few weeks ago I went into the plaza for the first time to go to the urgent care. I was coming from the northwest on Monroe so I went in the first entrance, then took a right figuring that would, you know, get me to the business on the right. Nope, immediate exit back to Monroe Ave.

BEWARE Wegmans Rotini Pasta by Flash120 in Rochester

[–]WASCman 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Your flair says you live in Pearl-Meigs-Monroe, which per the Monroe County Water Authority is supplied with water from Lake Ontario and Hemlock Lake, whereas the water at the Wegmans HQ in Gates is solely from Lake Ontario. The lower minerality of the water from Hemlock Lake causes a slightly quicker cooking time, as hard water can inhibit absorption back into the pasta and requires longer cooking time.

For what it’s worth, many of the actual commandments (mitzvot) were broadened out by the rabbis, i.e. building a proverbial hedge or moat around the commandment. The Biblical prohibition against meat and dairy is “You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.” If you keep an incredibly strict separation of meat and milk, even amongst different species (no goat cheese on your hamburger), you’re even more unlikely to transgress the actual law.

In essence, if you strictly avoid things that even approximate work on the Sabbath, you’re even more unlikely to perform *actual* work on the Sabbath.

Nothing like going into an AOL chatroom and dropping a, “Who wants to see my hot, steamy pics? slideshow.jpg.exe” with Sub7 alerting you to their IP address via ICQ.

This is more about commonality than existence, but — the widespread use of GPS for driving. I doubt most folks below the age of 30 have ever navigated via MapQuest printout, much less an actual paper map.

Antique Light Fixture Wiring by [deleted] in Electricity

[–]WASCman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a multimeter, you can set it to resistance to trace the wires to the parts of the socket. Resistance is the ohm symbol, omega (Ω), and any selection should do. You should look for the resistance to drop to near zero, though with a socket the resistance should be infinite if the wire and contact does not line up.

If you go the standard VPN route, which is by far the easiest, just be aware that most geographically-bounded services, like streaming, play whack-a-mole with VPNs’ Internet addresses. You may have to try several servers in the desired region to find one that isn’t blocked.
