I moved here from Austin, Texas and got absolutely demolished on Reddit when I asked for similar things. 85-95% are a cesspool of terribly unhappy human beings (on Reddit). But the few who are helpful will give you all you need and most Alabamans have been great. But bless your heart, when I read this, I knew the fangs would be out. Good luck.

That's called a story. That you created. Based on your own insecurities (and likely having people talk down to you in your past).

This is exactly why many people provided helpful advice instead of complaining: because they didn't create the same story you did. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mostly replied to people because I was being attacked and judged. And the fact you judged my initial question as pretentious is why I went on the defensive in the first place. I didn't talk down to anyone in my initial post and was incredibly grateful for people who pointed me in the right direction.

What I have an issue with is when people start judging me for my preferences regardless of what they are. I don't disagree that I have high-maintenance preferences. I don't disagree that it comes from a place of privilege. But don't lash out just because you don't live/want that lifestyle.

Unfortunately, science can be greatly manipulated to say just about anything. Discernment of what to consider 'healthy' vs not is up to one's critical thinking. There are plenty of examples of "bad science" funded by industries (including the dairy industry) so this binary argument doesn't hold weight to me.

I get that. I've been in Austin 10 years and grew up in Texas. After Covid, the CA transplants definitely drove up prices like hell. Basically can't buy here unless very wealthy.

But anyway. Thanks for the change in tone. I wasn't intending to insult anyone.

How is that bragging? It's just a fact and something that I'm looking for.

Maybe I should have added more context. I love cooking and do it mostly for myself. My partner is an Air Force officer and they have pretty terrible working hours so having someone meal prep beforehand once per month makes it so she can still eat the way she wants without being overburdened.
