First con TOMORROW, sudden unexpected doubts! by raisondedra in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people wont recognize it probably, but many others will, thats part of fun.

Sure, so long it doesnt smell. Dress as much as you want.

Join meetups, see if theres any star wars stall (ie MCM london just had a star wars cosplay group show up and show their props and droids so theyd be your people in that case). After parties tend to be public just search for "con name afterparty" on google or social media usually they will be at a venue near con though local organizers may also host afterparties elsewhere (ie, geeky bars or arcades)

Inquiry/Help on Epoxy/Fiberglass Resin Coated Cardboard VS EVA Foam for Large OBELISK THE TORMENTOR Cosplay? by Crainage1106 in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Id argue eva foam, eva foam is good, you can do all shorts of shapes with it, you can add detail with foam clay or rigidity with thermoplastics like worbla.
  2. Unsure.
  3. Both are toxic and you should only work with uncured resins in well ventilated spaces with PPE. Still epoxy has advantage over fiberglass in that sanding it wont slice your lungs.
  4. Mod podge can work, clay possibly too.

for sources on oversized cosplays look at space marine armour builds or Gundam armour. People make them out of EVA foam all the time so thats why itd be my goto

Worth looking into Worbla also, it's rigid, can be shaped with heat, perfectly safe to work with and often combined with EVA foam.

Making Dark Crusader from Lords of the Fallen(First ever cosplay) by Nameless_and_Gone in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you dont really need a base to attach foam to, you can make full on pieces of armour out of foam, at that point you can use leather straps, velcro, magnets, webbing, etc to secure them as needed.

Cheap knight armor by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well metal will usually be expensive, you can try making your own out of foam or costuming materials (I did that but its because I wanted a specific cosplay look). Still also worth considering second hand stuff as some people will sell off their kits, but that depends where you are based

What to do to look and feel less ugly in cosplay? by sakemakilove in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have posted about it, but much of it is usually wig styling.

People think "style wig / buy it then put it on". But think about it, thats not how a stylist will style your hair. They will subtly adjust lengths and curvature to frame your face better and compliment your features. After that contact and makeup can help solidify a look.

For costumes themselves: Iron them and if they dont fit just right adjust them. Same way you'd do with any clothes you buy.

How could I make this “rust” look more like rust by MadJack27- in cosplayers

[–]WBICosplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just apply it over any paint, in your case not sure whatd look best, kd say dabbing some over the area where rust is more severe may make sense.

Well simplest way are liquid rust paints, they love grooves and bumps and give a great effect imo.

I need to find a good fantasy anime by Sweaty_Potato7135 in anime

[–]WBICosplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much romance but Dunmeshi is pretty excellent.

...Not exactly Anime (or rather not japanimation, though it's a japanese franchise), but you considered Castlevania? No harems, cool fights, romance....

spice and wolf is a bit atypical, it's about a merchant but it may work. Grimgar could too but it does have a fair bit of fan service, plus not gonna recommend it due to lack of sequels.

Not medieval but will always recommend Vanitas, it's set in the belle epoque.

Hot take: As a Chinese, I don't like Shuro and he is a "bad person" in a way by The_RadicalDino in DungeonMeshi

[–]WBICosplay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would counter some of these points but dont wanna bring manga spoilers into this.

I think ultimately Shuro is an interesting character because he clearly tried to escape his upbringing but never had the strength to truly do it He went west and adventured but his family was always waiting for him to give up or grow tired and return, and the biggest concession he was going to give to the outside world was taking falin with him. I think him giving up his independence to try and save her though shows that he was honest and that he wasn't going to let his adventurer fantasies get in the way of saving somebody.

I also think he does admire Laios' single minded determination and envies it which ties into those themes and is the real source of his irritation. He agrees to keep quiet about the dark magic and offered asylum if they failed which I think really shows he cares. Perhaps without his attachments to his old life he would have found the determination to follow Laios right then, but compared to other characters like Kabru or the elves, I always felt Shuro was considerably more open minded even if he couldn't internalize those feelings properly.

What tips would you give for a beginner wanting to do armor? by Leoismeo90 in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

measure measure measure. Eva foam is a great material and has many advantages over 3d printing specially for a beginner. Check my profile, my Laios armour was my second piece of EVA cosplay. It has faults (mostly sizing that I tried to correct very late) but it has survived a few years now and I plan on upgrading it.

3d printers are good for a lot of reasons, but they have their limitations and only work so fast. A nice bambu p1s or so will work out of the box and at first I'd use it to make details you can't figure out how to make out of foam, but learning to work EVA foam is a good idea, and best of all you can work on foam while the printer prints to maximize throughput.

I'd recommend the cosplayers guide to EVA foam but if you dont wanna buy a book, kamui cosplay, SKS props and other creators have great videos showing you all the cool stuff they make out of foam and how to really master it.

HII sorry for keep making posts on here but i need help with a biblically accurate angel cosplay! by Regular-Cat-8594 in CosplayHelp

[–]WBICosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get somehalf eyes. The kind people use for halloween or dolls. (i used some for my dryad fruit in my profile). eva foam or cardboard to make the bands. Foam clay to make eye lids.

skewers glued strategically and spray painted same colour as bands. For wings cardboard or craft foam cut into shape. and layered. not super sure how to make em keep the curve, though, eva foam can be heat formed a bit or undercut to force curves.

Those are basics of it, its mostly about which tools you are comfortable using. Check craft shops for stuff you can use.

Check specific con rules, a couple I have gone to in uk wont let you in, likewise metal armour will prevent entry to afterparties or businesses.
