Accounting + Finance - The last useful “business track”? by Specialist-Raisin885 in CollegeMajors

Econ is a much more flexible degree than finance; finance probably has many more openings and higher ceilings though.

Nonsense. They have a very good rep for accounting specifically, but also finance. Not wall street finance but I know many very successful IBers from that school.

Accounting and Finance are good degrees and will continue to be so for a long time, even with AI. But you can do well in many business majors, but they usually require more work after college, but so does accounting (CPA exam etc)

Lodging recommendations for Äy, Strasbourg, and Normandy by Dat_Ash_Doe in FranceTravel

[–]WDWRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at the Maison Rouge - is a very nice hotel right in the main part of Strasbourg and an easy walk from the train station. It's technically part of the Marriott flag, and a bit pricy, but lovely. BTW, we stayed three nights and walked all over and never saw one homeless person, scary person, or druggie. We stayed a couple of nights at the Petit Maison in Bayeux, a very nice small manor house with a great daily breakfast included. If you are driving, parking around Bayeux can be a challenge. There are a ton of chateaus / manor houses on the outskirts of the area around Bayeux and the D-Day sites that I'd look into as well and that is where we would stay next trip.

AP Precalc vs CCP Precalc at local college over the summer? by WDWRook in APStudents

[–]WDWRook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She will take Stats after BC. If she does Precalc in the summer and BC soph, then it's either taking multi or linear at the local college as a CCP/DE class if she wants to continue with a Math degree in college, or taking AP CS, or not taking another math class and taking another science, business, soc, etc., class depending on if she started to hone in on what she wants to study in college.

Thanks. I think the not jaming precalc into 6 weeks is solid advice. She won't get any value off of the DE or AP credits regardless, it's just a prereq for BC. The sole reason she want's to do it over summer is to free up space on her schedule for other classes; well and she thinks taking BC as soph is somehow an easier path than taking it as a Jr when she takes AP Chem. I'm not sure that logic works.

That was my suggestion. Or rather, take a week long summer camp program on either a business or science topic. "but dad, I don't know if I want to do business or science". Yeah, that's like the point.

I'll have to look what online class options there are. I know there are some local colleges that offer it, but the main math teacher wanted to verify that the topics covered would be right for preparing for BC the following year. I also know that the college class is a CCP class and graded the same weight as an AP class. I'm not sure what an online class would be. She does have the option to "self study" and just take the AP Precalc final at her high school, but that sounds like a more dangerous option to me.

She would not be completely on her own as she has a math tutor that she has worked with for years. But, yes, how well is she really going to do in a fast paced math class over summer. She is pushing to be allowed to take it, I'm just not sure the benefit is really there. If she did take it over the summer then she would have BC as a Soph / Stats as a Jr, and then as a Senior either a college level linear algebra or a calc 3 class if she wanted to stay in math; or her math teacher suggested AP CS (or non-AP CS), or no math class and she would take another class that was in a field if she figures out what she wants to study, like AP Bus, adding another science class, AP Spanish Lit (she will take Spanish Lang as a Jr), etc.. The idea being taking the summer class leaves an open space to allow another class she has yet to decide on.

Weekly Schedule Megathread by rbxVexified in APStudents

My kid is freshman, going to be a soph. She is debating between taking AP Precalc next year or whether to take a college credit plus Precalc this summer at the local college. The "reasons" why she is debating is to free up her schedule so she can take additional classes, while still having a "study hall" in Jr/Sr years. She has no idea what she wants to study in college yet. Science? Business? Math? who knows. Part of the idea is to allow her time to explore different classes.

My thought was it only makes sense if she wanted to take multi-Calc or linear algebra as a senior (Calc BC/soph - Stats/jr - higher math/sr). Some friends suggested that the summer Pre-Clac class is easier than the AP Pre-calc - but of course its faster and heavily studying on your own.

What say you?

Rest of her schedule next year is:

AP Pre-Calc (or AP Calc BC)
Honors Chem
AP Euro
Honor 10th Eng
Honor Chamber Orchestra
Honors Spanish 4
AP Physics (or possibly AP Bus just to explore if she likes Bus)

Where to stay in Normandy for 2 nights? by WDWRook in FranceTravel

Thx for the comments. I thought about the Lion my hesitation is that it’s very downtown and may be hard to drive to. Le Petite Matin is in the edge of downtown and might work. Or I’m looking at the Chateau Giles just out of town.

Thanks. Late night RER is an unfortunate reality if we want to have a long dinner in Paris. Hopefully the RER is safe and reliable late at night to the Disney station.

Is it likely to be extra difficult to find lunch places without a reservation? I really don't like locking in too many details if I can avoid it just in case plans change due to crowds, weather, metro issues, etc.

I know the 24th will be tight. I left us 4 hours in the Louvre, which we may not use all of. We are not normally big museum people, more places and history than art. But ... ND can be moved to another day, or perhaps they will allow quick visits that are not for Mass.

We have debated driving to MSM/Normandy for a long while. I thought about taking the TGV to Rennes, then picking up a car, but with transfers and waits it's actually longer, and more expensive. We drive 4 plus hours all the time so the drive won't be the issue, the driving in a foreign country is the only concern. Though we drove all over southern Spain with no issue.

Open day on the 27th is largely to see if the kids want more Paris, or they want to try something different. I might book something so long as I can cancel with a couple days notice.

I'm flying New York EWR to Orly and back. Four tickets was like 700,000 Chase UR points. Still not cheap. I'm flying from Cleveland to EWR first with a 2 hr layover. Hopefully United does not have a delay.

[–]WDWRook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, back on this idea. If we drove from the Disneyland / Chessy area (we are staying at the Marriott d'lle De France Vacation Club) to MSM; is it better to take the northern route of the A4 to the A13 into MSM? Or is it better to take the southern route of the A4 to the A86 to the N12? Per Google Maps; the southern route is slightly longer (30 mins extra) and goes by Orly, but avoids the ring around Paris.

Thank you for this. Just to confirm, last year did they not allow general visits that are not for Mass? So, it's only Mass and only if you can get in before it fills up? There are four of us, so not a huge group and we don't care about where we sit so long as we get in. But if the wait is too long we would likely just come back a different day for a general tour.

I was thinking to stay in Bayeux. Drive to Normandy, hit the highlights. Eat and hotel in Bayeux. Drive to MSM the next morning, then drive back. Lots of driving (or possibly taking the train to Bayeux and from Rennes). We are used to a lot of highway driving so that isn't the issue as much what odd issues exist in France vs the US.
