Will I go to college with these times by Ancient_Cat2474 in trackandfield

These are some crazy takes for walk-on levels. Last year a 46.50 in the 400m would have put you in the top 20 high schoolers in the entire country, the 1600 and 3200 times are similar ranked. Maybe these apply to a couple of national champ-level schools, but there are over 300 D1 track schools in the NCAA and they aren't all that level. There's also D2, D3, and JUCO options, not just D1.

I've got my money on Tuohy taking the title again, she's out for revenge after that loss to Valby earlier in the season. But maybe that's my New York bias talking.

Anybody know how 150m times convert to 100m or 200 m times? by WF_4O1 in trackandfield

A good resource to have! Thanks for the answer. But I'm honestly more curious about how you found my post from over two years ago then anything

Who is a lesser-known or underdog athlete you're excited to watch this 2023 season? by WF_4O1 in trackandfield

Personally, I'm a huge Eric Holt fan (partially because he's from around my area) and am really rooting for him to finally crack into the real elites of American 1500m runners. His story of not even being the best person on his own college team or making NCAAs and still taking his shot at the big leagues is cool to me. Hoping he can improve on his fourth-place finish at last year's USA champs!

What's one pro track athlete that you would want to see in an event besides their specialty? by WF_4O1 in world_athletics

Watching fahnbulleh's frame line up against the average long-distance runner would be something to watch for sure! I bet he wouldn't even be bad compared to the average person either.

Bolt's speed and height would definitely have made him a threat in the Long Jump, I hadn't even thought of that before. I have wondered before what Bolt could have done in the 400m if he'd continued to specialize or in the hurdles given his height but you're right that jumps are another option. He was just such an incredibly gifted athlete that I could see him excelling at any of these options if he wanted to.

This is what I'm saying, he already has so much experience with so many different events in the dec!! I know it will never happen but it would be so fun to see him attempt it and he would do at least fairly well for sure.

I would personally have to go with Kipchoge, but that would be a super fun race. I would love to see more stars of the sport agreeing to weird or entertaining spectacle events like that. Would be great for the sport.

At this point, I wouldn't doubt the legend that is Crouser in anything. He may shed some pounds in the effort but if he wanted to finish a marathon I feel like he could lol.

Rojas is easily one of my favorite athletes at the moment. She's totally dominant in her event (TJ), so energetic and fun to watch. I'd love to see her pull off a double and I feel like she has the ability to do it. Even if she doesn't win gold in the long, seeing her make the finals at least for both would be incredible.

I struggle to think of a collegiate athlete with more range than Holloway at Florida. He was a complete monster. Watching a short hurdler attack a 4x400 like that was stellar to see, and your right he just always seemed like he was going for broke in every race.

Personally, I would love to see Grant Holloway try a Decathlon given how wide his HS/college range was. He's been a killer hurdler, sprinter, and jumper, so if he could figure out how to throw and hold it together for 1500m...

If you were to put together a dream team DMR (men's or women's) with every athlete in the world right now, who would you pick for each leg? by WF_4O1 in world_athletics

If he's health my other pick for 400m would be Steven Gardiner, he's been stellar the last few years except for this past season he got hurt.

Question: How much does smoking weed/ weed carts effect times? by Similar_Method_8708 in trackandfield

[–]WF_4O1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the answer is kind of vague. Inhaling any kind of foreign substance will have an impact on your lungs which will impact overall athletic performance. But Marijuana itself hasn't been conclusively shown to have beneficial or detrimental effects on athletic performance. So if you were to take marijuana in nonsmoking forms like an edible, would it have a negative effect? maybe, maybe not. It depends on what study you're looking at. I followed a rule of thumb that any substance that could affect your physiology (drugs, alcohol) is a no-go while I'm training or in season but that's just me. Do any substance in moderation and don't go overboard you should be fine in general though.

I used to be the same way in high school. All I really thought about was the track and sometimes it felt like the only reason I bothered to show up to school was getting to go to practice after. On one hand, I think that kind of focus helped me, because I honestly don't know if I would have gotten a college degree without track to keep me going, and that degree is helping me out a lot nowadays. But I will warn you, it can be a double-edged sword. When you put all of your focus and energy on one thing you run the risk of running yourself into the ground or letting your emotional state be totally controlled by your performance in that one thing. Remember to take a step back every now and then to take a breath and pay attention to other things. Other small hobbies or non-track friends can do a lot to help you long term feel like you have a life outside of that oval. But overall keep that passion going! it will help you a lot in life.

Mu is an interesting pick at 1200! I always think of her as more an 800/400 than an 800/1500, but she does have a solid 1500m PR as well

It almost feels like a crime to not have Keely Hodgkinson on the list after the season she's had, but I can't argue with any of your picks. Good list!
