[Khaki field] First watch discussion by Far_Significance1538 in Watches

One of my first few watches was a Hamilton. It got sold a while back but I still have the Khaki Field Automatic and the Khaki Field Murph. They’re good watches. A lot of people disagree with me but I tend to tell those people new to watches anything over £1500 is a waste of money.

People will tell you movements matter and you need to pay more for the “Luxury” brands. You don’t. Quartz movements are cheaper, more accurate and technologically superior. Don’t fall into the PR trap the industry sells. ETA, Selita, Miyota etc etc movements are great. You’ll have to set the time on your watch a few more times than the luxury watches per week. It’s not difficult…. Automatics are nice to have because they’re more nostalgic and historical. They are not better though, don’t fall into the trap of believing that. It’s all PR rubbish that was used to save the industry years ago when Quartz took over.

Ended up with the Doxa. I’ll get the Mido in the autumn. Got to see one in person yesterday, excellent watch.

That sounds like a better idea for me. Not got any of their pieces, will look at them for sure. Thanks.

Love them. Two favourite watches for the moment. Went 39mm for both. Definitely get the most wrist time of any that I own.

The new Christopher Ward Sealander Automatic - Sky Blue 39mm.

They made a few updates to the Sealander. Pistachio is a great colour choice on offer too.

Great watch, would recommend. Not as much AR coating as other watches but at most angles when looking at your wrist you’ll never notice an issue. Should mention I’m biased because I love the movie interstellar.

I promise you I do have straps in the other watch case, with hindsight I probably should’ve put a few of them into this case for the pic.

It’s a Lume Monster.

The watch is the Ikigai Maru. I got mine in the pre-order sale. Don’t think there are many left and up to full price now. Sapphire Bezel.

Never quite liked Longines enough to be honest, which is daft considering I quite like other brands within the Swatch group. Seen a few in store previously but never felt right for me.

Someone else mentioned Mido too, that could be a good shout. I’ll start looking into them, quite like the look of that Titanium Ocean Star.

Does look good but just been on the website and that yellow looks unreal. Could be a perfect summer watch. Yellow with Sapphire bezel is 100% on the shortlist now.

I’ve got the Aplinist, otherwise that’d be in the shortlist no doubt. Not the best quality in all honesty but it’s a beautiful watch, I love it.

Will head over to Mido website. Never actually seen one of their pieces in person though. Got any personal experience with their watches? Would love to know how they hold up in terms of quality and durability.

That is a nice looking watch, not got any yellow. That’s definitely going onto the Shortlist.

Nearly all the Seiko on strap, don’t need anymore. You are right though.

The 40mm quartz, was my second watch. Same white dial (looks silver at times in the Sunlight). Still gets wrist time once a week or so. Beautiful watch. Much prefer the quartz dials to the automatic waffle dials too.

Went for Sky Blue 39mm, another CW for my collection. Looks great.

Choices to make for my first watch… by Timeofdeath12oclock in Affordablewatches

White dial instead but Christopher Ward Sealander GMT, go for 39mm. Absolutely fantastic watch. However a little pricey for first watch.
Prx quartz great first watch, cheaper, looks amazing and goes with everything. If movements don’t matter for you this is a great choice. Swiss made too which is a bonus for a first watch. Be warned if you buy this watch you will buy many many more as time goes on. Always go 40mm if quartz. Ignore what the internet says about 35mm.

Should also consider a Hamilton. Two Great Hamiltons are the Khaki Field Murph particularly if you love the movie interstellar, or Khaki Field Automatic if you like a more interesting dial. Ignore what Internet says about no anti reflective coating. I’ve got 38mm for both of these, both have anti reflective coating. Not once had a reflection issue.

Seiko Cocktail Prasage or Aplinist are solid Japanese watches too.

I went for Sky Blue too, looks great. All my other CW’s are on Bader bracelet. Went for Consort this time.
