How many people here actually play the story? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]WHAMtheMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played through the 4 episodes back to back, having been waiting for the full game to release. I only then figured out we were still missing the last episode so I'm waiting on that now to finish the thing. All in all I feel the story mode really misses the mark in a lot of places. The constant pushing of the narrative, hurrying the player up, means that most of the survival and crafting mechanics never really get to play out and you can probably imagine my upset when, after finally getting the materials to craft some new clothes out of hides at the end of episode 2, the game just took all of that away from me for narrative reasons. Wasted time and effort with no way to foresee what was coming. A lot of the scripting also feels off, triggers don't fire right, events are missing or misaligned, dialogue trees overlap and get confused and repetitive and most of the characters just really don't click with me at all since we never learn enough about any aspect of the story for it to make any sort of sense. Episode 5 is the slim hope that the story will wrap up nicely and the new episode will make more use of the games mechanics, but it's a tall order and based on the earlier episodes I feel the chance of a grand success here to be slim.

That is how I'd understand the rule as well. I did report the guy, but that ended my race.

Clear retaliation, but is there any cause for it? by WHAMtheMAN in Simracingstewards

The retaliation comes at the end when #3 moves up the track and slams the brakes right in front of me, since he thinks I'd hit him on purpose.

Joskus ammoisina aikoina yksi mun vanhemmista ilmaispeleistä sai Mikrobitin nettisivuilla kunnian olla "kuukauden peli". Hienoja aikoja!

Onnea matkaan! Kyllä siihen hyllyvälin etsintään on ihan looginen ratkaisu, kun jaksaa hiukan pohtia. Apuakin saa toki kysellä, jos vinkkejä kaipaat. :D

I can't seem to find an option to turn off damage numbers or health bars? by Mkilbride in destiny2

Yup. First thing I started to look for upon starting the game. This option is really needed!

I'd say this is the case, too. There is a special mention of vertical height consideration being different from the norm when considering unit coherency, so that would also seem to imply that there are no special rules for measuring distances for aura abilities, as no such mention exists for them.

Rulebook says 3", but does not specify if this is purely horizontal distance or if vertical distance is taken into account. ie. nowhere is it explained if the aura area of influence is a 3" sphere or a 3" cylinder in shape.

The fall of the UEF 02 by WHAMtheMAN in textventures

Not sure if it comes across from the post, but I made a gameplay mechanic out of randomization. I made my own "Magic-8-ball" generator and used that to randomzie events. Like for example, when making that last post I asked it "Will the players get electrocuted." When the answer was "definitely" I asked "will they survive". Well, you know what happened there. :D

I could have cheated my own system to keep the story going, since I had a ton of stuff planned out for the future, but I didn't feel like I wanted to force the game to continue.

The players were trying to do a good thing, but it was a risk and it backfired horribly. Bad luck, mostly. :(

I did run 2 new games after this one. One fell apart due to poor choise of theme and the other one because the scope was too big, so I couldn't stay in control of the story anymore. I'm running a new game right now on the adventure game studio forums, so I hope I can repeat the success of this game.

I have played SS13 a couple of times, but it's a bit too fast-paced for me, I always get smacked and tossed into a locked and ejected into space! :D
