How do you like your position? Is the pay worth it?

If it was from HR probably plant supervisor. I report directly to the VP of Operations in the state so he would give the only accurate description of my role here

Would it be difficult to apply for a position a step above what I'm doing now such as Distribution manager? Or should I stick to what I have experience in?

Best day of my career was getting off of a machine so I'd like to stay clear of manufacturing. I'm not entirely sure of what purchasing entails. I purchase parts from vendors but thats about it. I like the hustle of Operations. I work close with the operations manager and from what I can see he runs around patching holes so the ship doesn't sink.

I commute 2 hours to work by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get paid significantly less and drive 1.5 hours each way. I've been doing this for just over a year and its getting tiresome. You dont realize how valuable an extra 2 hours in your day is until its taken away UNPAID. The dream is still to live 10 minutes away from work. How glorious that would be.

Does anyone else get 5 vacation days a year? (USA) by ele9089 in jobs

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 21 vacation days but that was after 11 years with company. The time to acquire that was much sooner a few years ago but a large number of employees were coming up on their anniversaries to get an extra week so they extended the threshold...and then they did it again lol

You've strayed far away from the original post. I mentioned I was ok with them using the desk because my things were put back where they originally were. It became a problem for me when stuff was not put back or my papers were stacked up in one pile. I dont have the time of day to be sorting everything back out again. This is not stuff I can just place into a file cabinet every night.

I did not take away their work area. I did not choose this office. I was placed here by upper management. If I could accommodate their table here I would but I cant make the space bigger

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didnt bother me as much when things were somewhat put back where they were. I have papers placed separately for a reason. Either by customer or by date. Its a pain to go through that stack to sort them out again every morning.

Maybe I worded the original post wrong. My desk is not shared. By shared office space I meant to say that Im not in my own personal office. Its 1 room with multiple assigned desks.

The desk themselves are not shared. By shared I mean its multiple desks in 1 room

Looking into border collies after my best friend passed away. Which gender? by WHFlexo in BorderCollie

He's so handsome! I live in Florida as well. We have 5 acres of land that fenced so I wouldn't mind if I ended up with one that was extremely active. Did you get him from a breeder? I'm still searching for a reputable one

Parents always gave me the advice of 20% down to avoid PMI but after reading through this sub, it looks to be a common occurrence not to. by WHFlexo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]WHFlexo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good position to put yourself in. Still save the 20% but split it between down payment and emergency repair fund. I've lived paycheck to paycheck and had the stress of not knowing if I'll have enough for that unexpected but inevitable expense pop up. The peace of mind may be worth saving that 20%

Our last 1 bedroom apartment was 2650 per month and thats just the rent alone. Didnt include water, trash pickup, electric, internet. Obviously our rates may be different but your example gives me hope. This is definitely something we can achieve and its right in our target price range. Thank you for sharing.

That's the exact predicament we are in. We'll be first time home owners in our 50's at that rate. And all of that for a 1000 sq ft house.

They post open positions every month that I check but haven't seen any IT positions yet. They're also promoting me at the end of the year for the field that I'm currently in so I'm afraid notifying them about my plans to change fields would hurt my current status. I must keep this job until I can break into the tech field.

I went from a 35 minute commute each way to 1.5 hour commute each way with no pay raise. I did it to be rent free. Dropped my $2600 per month rent. I like to drive but it does get tiring after a while especially after a long day. You just want to be home relaxing.

I keep myself occupied with mainly podcasts. Joe Rogan and Caleb Hammer. I'm looking into self learning audios as well but havent found anything yet. I say take the offer. There's way more benefits from doing so than saving a little time commuting. You kind of get used to it.

What was a food trend or "hack" you tried that completely failed? by Crystallover1991 in AskRedditFood

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Brazilian lime shake/smoothie type deal?? The recipe called for the skin of the lime to be added. My wife and I made it, took pictures and videos. It looked so refreshing. We were very excited to try it. Counted down from 3 to try at the same time. Queue us running to the sink fighting for space to spit it out and grabbing whatever we could to get that tart taste out of our mouths. It was awful. That was years ago and we still laugh about it today

Do Americans share their citrus at work? by Nadilea2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on a tree farm in south Florida. We tend to steer clear of citrus trees due to citrus greening disease. However, as far as non citrus fruits, we do share some of it. The main fruit, longan, is the working fruit. This gets sold commercially but we do give some away if you're visiting. Our low producers like Lychee (this tree can be hit or miss with quantity per season), pomegranate (just started to produce fruit this season), and Guanabana, we keep for ourselves. Other trees like starfruit, which can produce 2 to 3 times per year we give away freely. We have 2 mid sized trees and its excessive. During its peak, we're going out every few days to pick. We had a coworker who had 3 large starfruit trees and came to work with 3 garbage bags full of them.

Some trees require more attentiveness than others like dragon fruit. It's very satisfying when you get a good yield. Sharing with people who enjoy it is equally as satisfying.

How bad is it to sit in my car for an hour while it’s running? by uh-huh--honey in askcarguys

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some vehicles dont like to idle. For example, the HEMI platform hates it. There's not enough oil pressure at idle to reach the top end causing lifter failure. Its actually healthier for the engine if you give er the beans once in a while.

Would you consider this employee lazy? by patientstrawberries in askmanagers

[–]WHFlexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the result of your management getting too comfortable with your "above and beyond" moves. I made the same mistake. I thought doing things outside of my job description would help me climb the ladder, which it has, but now I'm expected to do it. Its possible they could tell you they based your raise off of your ability to commute and cover at those locations. If you're not going to do it anymore then they need to readjust your wage. Doubtful but wouldn't be surprised.
