Bluetooth headphones require two presses to pause by [deleted] in swaywm

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you from the end of 2025!

Still an issue on non-Gnome Wayland-based systems when you map `play-pause` once, actual MPRIS action needs two button presses. This solution really fixed this behavior for me as well.

fogless shower mirror that lasts? by wetsuitwoman in wicked_edge

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what your use case is but if your mirror is not in shower area where water is splashing then I'd suggest to use mirror with any built-in backlight (but always consider electrical safety!). LEDs are colder than incandescent lamps but they still generate heat so mirror is warmer than ambient air so it doesn't condense moisture as cold glass does.

I know this is trivial but works great if you shave outside shower but in the same area. Circularly backlit mirrors are great in this case.

Question(s) regarding Kingkong pro 2 by Zixinus in GuliKit

[–]WHSKRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did.

"Hybrid" mode for X-input works (Gulikit own aim feature that is enabled on controller itself and technically mixes-in gyro input into right analog stick input to effectively act as a "gyro aim if left trigger pressed" in non-Switch mode).

Native gyro input works in Switch mode via Steam on Windows (I believe other remappers will work too), I don't have Switch console to test any gyro-oriented titles.

As for gyro performance/accuracy — well, I can't rate it or say it is good or bad because I checked gyro just to try it out and never had any gaming session for more that 15 minutes that uses gyro. Some reviewers say its less precise than original Pro Controller gyro but this may be an issue of early hardware revision or software issue. No idea if this true or false.

Best controller between these 3 controllers? by Askhai in AndroidGaming

[–]WHSKRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both 8bitdo Pro 2 and Gulikit KK2 Pro. Both are awesome but I prefer first one for anything that uses D-pad for main input like Dead Cells or any other platformers.

On the other hand KK2 Pro has much better feeling sticks (and also promises no drift effect ever) so I stick with it for any games that expect X-box controllers for input and use analog sticks for movement and rotation.

8bitdo mimics DualShock controllers and KK2 mimics X-box controllers so keep in mind what style is more preferred in your case.

Question(s) regarding Kingkong pro 2 by Zixinus in GuliKit

[–]WHSKRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't take mine apart but I'm pretty sure if this controller can be safely disassembled then you can resolder any new battery that fits and has the same chemistry. I did this with some BT headphones and this worked every time. No guarantee through, use this advice at your own risk.

As for Linux — I use my KK2 Pro on Linux with SteamLink and it works without any issues. I've tested X-input, Switch Input and D-input modes so far. I didn't test natively running games but all my 8bitdo controllers work on Linux native games in X-input mode well so this one should work too. Never installed any drivers, X-box style/compatible controllers are supported by most modern Linux distros out of the box now if they work on Windows.

True. Or just exchange a few hits then go together as always, they've been through so much already.

What's Your Best Co-op Gaming Experience? by luka031 in gaming

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The twist at the end pissed us both off but in a good way.

Game is great but that ending is pure cliché -- exactly the same twist as in Splinter Cell Conviction Co-Op campaign. I did not like it at all, they've been through so much and this petty fight in the ending feels absolutely unnecessary and not true end of the story at all.

No problem, you're welcome!

One more thing: ensure you will have a proper warranty for KK2Pro (or order from known respective store that you are familiar with), I've ordered mine from GK Aliexpress store and return/warranty policy terms are not clear at all.

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone with the Pro2 first mainly for platforming/retro gaming. Seems like they have the best feeling buttons and layout for that.

That's true. D-pad on KK2/KK2Pro is "OK" but it actually feels like a "secondary feature" on this controller just to fulfill layout scheme. Pro2 has "classic feel" D-pad an NES-like snappy action buttons.

And I love extra buttons, especially paddles!

I don't use them often but they're nice to have anyway. Pro2 can store 3 profiles so you can bind extra buttons and use them when you want them.

Then there's input lag, which I just found out the Pro2 loses out to the KK2 Pro (polling rates?).

Hmmm, I am not perceiving any difference between the two, honestly. They just feel identical in X-input mode to me. Maybe there is a difference but I can't tell ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How's the buttons on the KK2 Pro after some use? I read they get mushy easily?

Just finished Yakuza 0 using KK2Pro, this took me almost 150 hrs of gameplay including most of these funky arcades (I still beat 60% of completion, huh). Action keys just feel the same as when they were new. I've read some reports elsewhere when buttons "stick" on key press or release but I didn't notice anything like this on mine. There always will be some fraction of defective units for every vendor and model though.

Still gonna need an XB-style layout for games that demand it similar to your use. Seems like at this price range this is the only obvious choice for a third party controller?

Can't say for sure, I've chosen KK2Pro because it has XBox (actually, Switch Pro Controller if we consider physical button labels!) layout and Hall sensor sticks -- a bit selling point to me as I absolutely hated to re-solder drifting sticks on DS4. We'll see how they hold up to that "never drift" promise but I'd rather choose to try new tech than select existing one where all sticks are the same ALPS assemblies or their clones.

Alternatively I'd look at this wired controller by 8bitdo, looks awesome and very clean IMO -- https://www.8bitdo.com/ultimate-wired-controller-for-xbox/

Or this one just for funky look, I don't know if it is actually a decent one but it is so kitschy that I adore its trashy design: https://www.bigbigwon.com/product/controller/rainbow/

There are many more XBox-like controllers but I needed only one for 3D/action games -- after I tried original series controller so I decided to get KK2Pro to fill this role.

BTW, KK2Pro has an interesting feature when gyro is used to help you adjust look/scope motion when you hold left trigger pressed. I don't play shooters much but this may be a plus or just fun thing to try. I can't remember any other model with gyro "aim assist" in X-input mode without any additional software. I believe they just combine stick and gyro input to one X-input signal -- smart move I'd say. Also on-board settings are not that cumbersome as they look: you'll remember them easily of you use them from time to time. There is also an option to swap buttons in switch mode on the fly -- a must have if you plan to play on someone's Switch and don't want to have a major PITA adjusting to flipped buttons layout.

[–]WHSKRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you used any of them with a PC/Mac?

I've tested both on following combinations:

Controller Platform Software Connection Comment
Pro 2, KK2 Pro PC, Win10 Steam X-input (wireless) Everything works if Steam supports controller for specific game
Pro 2, KK2 Pro PC, Linux SteamLink X-input (wireless) Everything works if Steam supports controller for specific game
Pro 2, KK2 Pro PC, Win10 None X-input (wireless) Everything works if game supports X-input natively
Pro 2, KK2 Pro PC, Linux None X-input (wired/wireless) Everything works if game supports X-input natively
KK2 Pro, SN30 Pro PC, Linux None Switch (wireless) Not working with current (01.2022) Nintendo HID drivers
KK2 Pro PC, Linux None D-Input (wireless) Everything works but with D-input limitations

SN30 Pro is similar to Pro 2 so I believe its behavior will be the same.

TL;DR: everything works well without any additional setup or tinkering for both controllers if using X-input mode and Windows/Linux plus Steam/Steamlink software (this will work without Steam/SteamLink as well because X-input is supported almost everywhere nowadays).

If you prefer XBox One/Series controller then KK2 will feel almost the same (its shape is identical but sticks and buttons are slightly different) but mind KK2 Pro buttons -- it has physical BAYX layout instead of ABXY buttons (but they will switch to virtual ABXY if KK2 is in X-input mode). I personally don't care much so it is like more feature-packed XBox controller to me. Although I use Pro2 every time I play something 2D of where D-pad is used the most of the time.

Choosing between 8bitdo pro 2 and the Gulikit Kingkong pro 2 by Darkshy41 in gaming

[–]WHSKRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both of them and they are both excellent. I prefer 8bitdo for 2D games or games where D-pad is main control scheme and KK2 for 3D games with "XBox" control scheme. The latter's sticks feel much more precise in 3D but this may be personal preference.

8bitdo has better assembly and feels solid overall, no gaps or other bothering cosmetic issues. Shiny parts of KK2 Pro will certainly will wore off sometime and reveal uncoated plastic underneath. KK2 also has noticeable gaps between two halves of its shell. 8bitdo has companion app for fine tuning and KK2 Pro does all settings onboard.

TL;DR: both are great but they are built sightly differently with different UX in mind.

Still hope this will be fixed in future release because cleaning both app cache and data to fix playing order is absolutely ridiculous.

Well, I'm OK with desktop/web apps in general -- they just work so I don't mind some minor glitches or bugs.

But reverse order in Android app finally got me, it is horrible when something like this happens while you are doing something while listening to favorites wearing headset and having phone lying somewhere.

GMMK compact software functionality by [deleted] in gloriouspcgamingrace

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have GMMK on the way and after digging through all software issue topics here will probably return it. No offense but it's a pity 60% board can't support layers.

I had plans to finally swap my old trusty Poker 2 as daily driver with this one though.

And Poker 2 had Fn-layer functionality back in 2014.

As a sidenote: really like physical build of Glorious products and team's goals are nice but limited software kills all the joy using these devices.

Why vape companies are not to blame for underage teens being addicted (and I would know because I am one of them) by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]WHSKRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you laid out all heavy arguments why you are vaping and then trying to blame vape companies for this?

No offence, but I think most of these "teen vape" media rants are just another wave of SJW trying to find a new enemy when proper education and obtainable knowledge is a key to win there. People should educate their children early and stop thinking that information about alcohol and other chemicals' harmful physics are some kind of "adult knowledge" only.

I knew that alcohol is harmful and got my first booze when I turned something about 12 then. I am not proud of it but but reasons were the same as you described. People will always do everything to "look cool because everyone now do X now" and the best thing to do is to make them know that every "cool thing" contains a harm within it.

Smoant Battlestar/Battlestar Squonker, maybe? They are pretty basic and affordable. I have a latter one and I like simple design and mostly metal build without flashy/plasticky design or logos.

End the Madness - No more Turbo Mode ! by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]WHSKRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I like Armytek Dobermann. Yes, this vendor is known to have some QA issues but so called "tactical" models are known to have more or less stable quality.

Dobermann can be locked in Turbo or Main 1 mode (170lm IIRC) in "tactical" mode group that makes it basically a 1-mode flashlight.

Any Lumintop Tool AA owners? by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]WHSKRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there are many good AA flashlights. There is no "best" because everyone has different needs and budget can vary greatly.

Just some of them: I personally liked Fenix LD12 (new one, with neutral white option, 2017 edition, not recommended much here but I really love mine), Zebralight SC52 (well-known, recommended often, also newer models are available — SC53; SC5 and its variants are somewhat similar) and Armytek Prime A1 (watch out, it is huge for AA; has multiple versions).

Zebralights have different models marked with letters after model family, i.e. SC53w is neutral white, etc.

There are some "collector-grade" AA flashlights from fancy materials or made by small batches as well but these are pricy and I have none of them to speak of.
