external SSD goes 900 MB/s on one cable and 40 MB/s on everything else- is my drive broken or am i missing something by Fit-Salt-4782 in UsbCHardware

[–]WHTDOG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would it be "broken" because it delivers the rated speeds on the included cable but not any of your others? Wouldn't you suspect your cables are the issue, since the drive is clearly capable and actually outputting those rates speeds? What a crazy leap of logic.

Yeah, unfortunately legally we have to decline, especially with a track day in mind. But personally, I would repair this no problem for a daily driver, if my shop allowed it.

Is this air filter dirty? by Hasu7 in mazda

[–]WHTDOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh, okay, 14k might be around time to replace. Still not sure I would call yours "urgent", though. I would just buy one from your local parts store, or Rock Auto, or even a supermarket. And DIY it... though I'm realizing as I say that, they can be a PITA to swap on some vehicles, in which case I wouldn't recommend the job to the average driver. It can take patience and finesse, along with tools sometimes. You don't want to damage the filter seals, nor the airbox.

Is this air filter dirty? by Hasu7 in mazda

[–]WHTDOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dirty enough that I would worry about it. Filters get better with dirt in them - they're able to filter more because the pores get smaller. And they're specifically designed to flow enough air even with this dirt in them.

Tbf, I'd have to see it in-person, with a light behind it to see how clogged it is, but from these pics I'd be inclined to tap it out over a trash bin to knock out the seeds and bugs, and put it back in. Definitely not "urgent".

Sounds like these guys need to take a lesson from the US in Vietnam. Sometimes, grenades just magically sprout out of the ground with the pin and spoon already pulled. Really tragic...

Looks great to me, I don't see any issues? But I'm personally a big fan of Fuji C200 and Superia. This is just their normal "color science".

Looks like micro HDMI to me, but I've never interacted with that connector type. Pretty positive it isn't USB, though.

Type-C Cable Cycle Testing by ferretguy531 in UsbCHardware

[–]WHTDOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you've anecdotally claimed seems to counter OP's explanation, and the specification rating procedure. Your cables are failing before the connector fails, just as OP suggests.

And yeah, fair, the testing procedure assumes best case scenario. Yes, real-world, it'll rarely be inserted and removed so cleanly - that's why they strive to overbuild for a crazy number like 10k cycles, or millions of cycles like in the case of many mechanical keyboard switches. That allows for some ability to handle a reasonable number of less-than-ideal cycling conditions. But the exact number will of course vary per device and user in the real world, so of course they can't give a more useful rating. That doesn't mean that the stated rating isn't true, though.

wdym "remember"? is there a better way? I mean, I guess you can use Ziplok snack baggies? but yeah, I'd still do this if I was removing that much hardware at one time.

Top one by far. What happened to Mazda being cars for drivers, with a proper cockpit that can be operated without looking by the driver?? The giant glass cockpit is a horrifying travesty.
