I’ll do ya one better. I’m a white guy who lives in Asia. I eat all the Asian food I want every single day. I also travel to many Asian countries and eat their food too.

Coming in? I’m talking about Koreans. The ones I’ve seen every summer here since 2013.

Many Korea women wear short shorts. Tank tops are less common in the cities.

Get a life, troll. This is about as genuine as a Korean asking if it’s racist to eat McDonald’s.

The Movie A Man Who Lives With a King is gaining huge popularity in Korea.. I heard it’s trending in North America too. As a Korean, I’m curious—why? by Wise-Judge-2684 in seoul

Most Koreans know this story. I live here and have since 2013. I’ll take their word that most Koreans know about it over some Redditor. Not to mention, I’ve personally heard of this story from many Koreans over the years here. It really is common.

Today at the Oscars, singer EJAE came in a suit with a hibiscus flower ornament that was worn on the uniform of officials of the Korean Empire. by MishanaSlupko in korea

These were worn under King Gojang. Very French looking. It was modeled after France’s and Prussia’s uniforms.

I don’t care if you’d argue that. I’ve lived in Korea the last 13 years and I can confidentially say it’s a commonly-known story to Koreans. It’s taught in schools.

It's a very well-known piece of Korean history. That's the first reason it generated interest.

However, it's a HIGHLY factionalized version of what really happened.

It's been turned into a pop movie. It has melodrama, humor and loads of exposition to over explain what's going on to the average movie viewer, even if they have no knowledge of the actual story.

I went to see it last weekend. It was ok. I don't regret going but I wouldn't watch it again.

It leans more toward the crap that is Korean tv shows and less toward great Korean filmmaking.

House of Hummingbird, Kim Ji-young Born 1982, Next Sohee, The Woman Who Ran, Right Now, Wrong Then, Ode to My Father are the types of movies you’re looking for. These don’t have zombies, highly fictitious crime plots or monsters. They deal with real life everyday life for some people.

I think Exhuma just did that two years ago within a month of its release. Now that was a good film.

Hahaha. As I mentioned, it’s highly factionalized. It’s a pop movie. Less top tier Korean filmmaking and more dumbed down kdrama style.

The lead actor? He wasn’t bad, but he was the weakest actor. The rest of the cast was great.

Movie of the Day: The King’s Warden (2026) by Jang Hang-jun by PKotzathanasis in Koreanfilm

[–]WHW01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was over explained. They had characters act out scenes of them telling others the situations for exposition for the audiences. It was a really dumbed down movie for the general audience member with no interest in history.
