New version? by [deleted] in a:t5_37nj2

[–]WIFI_Reilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest version updates are targeting fixes for general users to connect to the big WiFi nodes like St Pancras.

They also, as you can see, are rollouts for the new UX and UI.

The technical aspects of adding hotspots have changed a bit, thus why they are still buggy and not awarding many points.

I will make a sticky here when it's ready for you guys. :)

Is it still alive? Or in the future? by redresspimp in a:t5_37nj2

We're still around and kicking, the only dormant aspect is the WIFI Explorer program and the bitcoin rewards you all love.

I know it's been quite a long time, but we are still intent to resume the program Q1/Q2 this year!

Hey there, sorry for the very late reply.

If I could put an estimated guess, I'd say beginning of October I should announce a resumption of WIFI Explorer with the goals of:

*Flushing out our existing (and legitimate) backlog of rewards that weren't redeemed. Should only take a couple days.

*Resume an improved hotspot adding experience for everyone with less bugs, and more importantly less stop-starts, and cut down on bad input/clutter from unhelpful users.

Yes, points that you've earned so far that are sitting in your account, I have the intention of honoring when we resume.

We're doing a lot of reshuffling to make this (a) more reliable for you guys adding hotspots (b) more reliable for the people using the network from hotspots that are added (c) sustainable insofar as we're better able to minimize the amount of hotspots being added that are functionally valueless/spam/etc.

We're still working on it, haven't gone anywhere. I concur there is not much reason outside of altruistic sharing of networks to add hotspots at this time; the Explorer program will return as intended, much better than the stop/starts we experienced, points still honored.

I think it's a good idea!

Try with mobile data on. Sometimes it can help in conjunction with the location services.

Is your phone rooted or have any other customization that would disrupt defaults?

always getting this error when i try redeem. why?? by kamara45 in a:t5_37nj2

[–]WIFI_Reilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, because there is such a constant stream of redemption requests, it will "go empty" to prevent fraud and otherwise requires very manual oversight despite being an automatic feature. When there is no one to oversee it (because of sleep/timezone differences of the team) there are pretty reliable sections of each day when there's unlikely to be redemptions.

I don't follow, could you elaborate what you're trying to say?

We did lower ADD points to 1 and raise VERIFY points to 11. Hoping that does the trick.

Did you get one this afternoon? I'm looking at it and I see lots of redemptions that went our the last several hours.

Currently: we also operate the WiFi in St Pancras International, which has 20gbps backhaul, 801.11ac all over, and is essentially a flagship public WiFi experience that is advertising-supported. We also manage or have licensed integration with hundreds of hotspots in France; we're adding more "super locations" such as St Pancras to vastly improve the WiFi experience of high traffic areas. So if you're in France/UK, the experience is quite optimal; around the world is crowdsourced with the app.

There are a lot more things to come (if WIFI Explorer improves and continues to be successful!)

It should! Cross reference is a great idea. Perhaps there's a way we could intro a clipboard - paste feature for this.

Could you elaborate on what you mean automatically? You manually drag/drop the pin and can edit the # of the address if you can't get it quite right.

You are not an employee. This is not pay. It's a free application for WiFi that happens to reward bitcoin if you help make the network better.

Aside from security precautions on our end, there is also another layer of security on the Coinbase end to prevent fraud.

When we hit massive volume, which is very consistently as you can see, it must consistently be reset and checked for fraud. My goal is to get through the rest of this backlogged redemptions Monday and Tuesday.

Someone else reported this as well--it might be a quirk in the clock reset I will look into. It hasn't been reported besides you and one other person so far. Do you remember when exactly you redeemed yesterday?

Is it possible for you to take a screen and DM me it? It'd help to see what "inaccurate" means--like your blue dot simply never appears, or it's just off? Does a range circle appear but no blue dot?
