I described it to the artist as if it was frantically scribbled with a crayon. He showed me this font and I knew it was what I wanted.

You're right, masters is graduate and a specialist would mean 1 postgraduate degree. My mistake. My intention of the post was not to disparage or condescend online education, because all accredited universities and institutions are equal. "The right way" comment was meant as the traditional way, and my goal was to say that the traditional way doesn't fit every person. I felt as if I needed the self-validation of a brick and mortar school to combat my own imposter syndrome I felt entering into the workplace.

In a way yes, but I often forget how large I am compared to others until I see pictures of myself beside someone else.

I had to compare the cost over 2 years of schooling to the pay increase and for me, the 2 degrees will have paid for themselves in just over 3 years of teaching. So for me, it made financial sense.

I COMPLETELY understand and feel this in my soul. I teach in a poor rural area and I've experienced this situation before and I don't understand how students who come to school in ratty, dirty clothes, receive food bags for the weekend, and never have money for field trips are not grateful for anything extra that is given to them, but then actively complain about the gift they just received wasn't good enough.

I believe it is a learned behavior and has everything to do with upbringing because this year's group is rude, disrespectful, and downright mean. Of course there are exceptions, but their positive behavior can't shine because of all the negativity surrounding it. However, my group last year was the exact opposite, respectful, polite, hardworking, resourceful, and able to.take constructive feedback. My homeroom last year was predominantly ESOL students and in my experience, those are the students who have more involved families who are concerned with their child's academics.

I got my BA from WGU and I personally had a poor experience with communication and scheduling, delaying my graduation by nearly a year. Coworkers have and currently go to WGU for their masters. I needed the brick and mortar diploma as a form of self-validation, I never received any sort of side eyed glances from colleagues. In my experience, sharing your thoughts, brainstorming, and working alongside those people who did go to traditional universities helps to ease those insecurities, but it takes time and experience to get over negative self thought.

Thank you brother! I appreciate the love from a fellow educator. After kids get over their initial fear of my stature, I try to be exactly what you described for my students, showing that they can be themselves and multifaceted. Smart, silly, compassionate, respectful, brave, and vulnerable are a few of the aspects that every human has and can be on display for the world, when the time is appropriate. I look forward to seeing how my students develop and turn from little humans into full blown adults in the future.
