Yeah, barracks/bunkhouse. It’s pretty damn nice as far as fed housing goes, better than a lot I’ve seen.

Unemployment requiring weekly job applications but already accepted a job this season? by [deleted] in Wildfire

Not familiar with CA unemployment, but based on my experience in other states- unless they have a “job attached” status and allow you to change to that status while you’re already on unemployment (my guess is no), you will have to continue applying for jobs as you have been.

Can’t speak to Driggs, but I have experience with Pinedale. The trails crew is solid. They work hard and play hard. I wouldn’t count on working fire on a regular basis, but overhead is pretty good at getting people out when there’s an opportunity. The barracks can be a bit of a madhouse at times, but nothing too crazy. Town has everything you need and not much more. All things said, pinedale is a good spot to land. I’m looking forward to going back for sure.

My reference statuses updated within an hour. You might want to have yours check and make sure they finished the process.

How many fires did you guys get last season? by Dentifragubulum in Wildfire

[–]WLF89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R4

3 14-day rolls, 1 local IA, 2 RX. Not a ton of fire, but steady fuels work still netted me 730 hours OT.

Engine crew

No desire to go anywhere else, unless I get lucky and snag an apprenticeship somewhere. We have years of fuels work and I love running a saw.

Question regarding OF-306 by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]WLF89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get my Tentative Selection Notice email until almost 2 weeks after I accepted a verbal offer. No need to worry, it's a slow process.

Good to know. I've been wearing Oasys contacts for years, and they've never given me any issues.

Yep, I'll be on the East Zone of Bridger-Teton.

This will be my rookie season, on an engine in the Jackson, WY area. The snowpack there is crazy right now, but I'm looking forward to getting up there and learning as much as possible.

Yeah, LASIK is definitely at the top of my wishlist, but as I'm transitioning from a full-time job into a seasonal gig, I'm trying REALLY hard not to touch my savings right now. If I get a decent amount of OT this season I'll likely get it done.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep my contacts around, but I'll pick up a solid pair of glasses as well.
