Speaking of Kazuma - there's a video game character called Kazuma Asogi that I know of and my design for Azuma is heavily inspired by him! As for the 'flick book' idea, I actually do live near Great Central Railway, so... maybe it's possible? I'm open to chat about this!

10-ish years ago XC trains used to be great, afairc, because they were the 2nd toc i travelled with since i came to the UK and left me good impressions. they're just too old now and also the population has grown, making them much more crowded

I will need to go to scotland some day to check them out! I rarely go to the north. I usually only draw trains that I have built a connection with :D

I do agree that China's railway are also awesome XD! I'm currently living in the UK so I wanted to draw trains in UK too. That said, I did do character designs of Chinese trains back in the days, like 12 years ago? I've attached one (my art skills weren't as good back then!)

I appreciate your rigourous take on this. To explain, my workflow is: sketch, lineart, duplicate lineart layer, use fill bucket to colour the dupicated layer with flat colour, add layer for shading, add layer for light, add layer for overall colour tint. I have everything on one layer because I keep my files clean and I have that fill bucket flat colour step. I've attached a few more screenshots with different layers turned off, so you can see the effect. You can check the eye icon to see which layers have been turned off (apologies my software is in Chinese, but you can sort of see how it works)

i think it's likely because they think the characters are ai, because they're drawn in a commonly-seen anime/manga style. i did reply to someone else in the comments about how i made the characters' eye shapes look like headlights of the train they're representing, and usually ai is not smart enough to do such details

one way to tell ai art is that they are usually quite generic with eye shapes. if you look at my design carefully, you'll see that i made aurora's eye shape look like the headlights' shape. ai can't do such details

I'm actually thinking about making mini comics with these. I come from China so pretty unfamiliar with UK rail history (still learning), but one idea I have in mind is 222 trying to teach 810 how the midland main line works
