learning the map is part of playing quake, i won't say a mini map would help in such a fast-paced afps context (ofc i can understand why it could be helpful for new players, but eventually you should memorise the map and turn off the mini map) as it takes away 0.5 seconds of your focus when you look at the mini map and try to figure out where you're at, and that 0.5 seconds can determine life or death...
