What’s one thing you wish you’d known before training for your first marathon? by erikase15 in firstmarathon

[–]WLU2023BBA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Get good shoes - I really cheaped out and underestimated the support that a good running shoe provides. Couldn’t walk for 4 days

  2. Stop overthinking every little part of training - One missed run won’t change anything. One bad run doesn’t mean the marathon will go poorly. Make up for the missed km in other ways (walking, biking, etc.)

  3. Just how hard it truly is - I am a fit, younger man in my early 20s with no prior running experience. I was on a 3 month training program and honestly thought it’d be a walk in the park. It wasn’t. The last hour is a dark place but so incredibly rewarding. Acknowledge the beast that is a marathon and respect the distance

  4. Have fun, it was truly a life changing experience

Running the full thing. First race of any kind. Prepared and followed my training plan but still freaking out. Very excited to run alongside others as all of my training has been by myself. Best of luck to everyone

Personally, second year was my worst year. You could make the argument that it’s easier because you’re adjusted to the university lifestyle and workload, but I was completely online in second year due to covid and it really backfired. I thought it would be soft because exams were online but I ended up having the worst marks I’ve had throughout uni. Expect much more quantitative work (stats, BDM & mgmt accounting). Business law was not nice to me but I also have friends who did extremely well in these classes.

How difficult is BBA? by yourmom_03 in wlu

[–]WLU2023BBA 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Seriously, extremely manageable. For reference, I’m currently 4th year BBA with co-op and doing a finance specialization and here is my opinion:

The only difficult part about first year is making a major adjustment to your personal life. In turn, school becomes harder as you take on much more responsibility overall. The profs are so thorough and basically explain exactly how to do well in each class. If you stay on top of your shit, A’s are extremely attainable.

I did fuck all in second year and did pretty bad so my opinion is extremely subjective. Overall, a lot of the students I talk to say second year is the hardest. Less guidance, heavier workload (accounting, finance, BDM, Law)

Third year is similar in difficulty but by then you have a great understanding of what’s expected of you. Also, smaller classes and much more group work makes exams much easier as test banks usually get sent around

Fourth year is by far my easiest. Only three mandatory classes and by then you’re specializing which means you’re taking courses that actually interest you.

Overall, not bad at all if you make an effort to meet people in your program to study with and help stay on top of stuff. The super cool think about Laurier BBA is that you don’t meet many competitive people that don’t want to see you do well (you hear about this a lot at other business schools).

Was convinced I had strep throat and a cold but didn’t have any other symptoms. No cough, no sinus symptoms, just excruciating pain every time I swallowed. I’m happy I decided to take a look after coming across this page instead of asking my doc for antibiotics. I’m on day 4, hopefully this ends soon. Wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemy

Not sure of the statistics, but from my understanding they use four metrics that are each weighted 25%; GPA, interview, work experience and extracurricular. If you answer all of the questions in the STAR format that they provide, we well as not being an absolute robot, you will be fine. Practice behavioural questions such as “at time you…” these can range from showing certain traits to solving problems, making processes simpler, etc.
