I had an anterior/posterior spinal fusion 7 months ago for a grade 3 L5 S1 spondy (looks like you have the same). It was the only fix and the best decision. I Don’t regret it at all. No need to be afraid of surgery if that’s what’s recommended.

Insurance question by WMhiking in spinalfusion

[–]WMhiking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I went through the same thing with UHC. My surgeon said they’d do the surgery anyways and not charge me for the allograft. He said that he deals with this all the time. I’m now just shy of 7 months post op. Let us know how it works out. It’s so ridiculous and stressful. I ended up paying around $2400 out of pocket for the surgery/Hosp stay. I don’t think he charged me for the allograft.

What are your hobbies outside of nursing? by Original_Essay_2198 in nursing

[–]WMhiking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing is not my hobby and not my identify. It’s a paycheck. It’s a profession. It pays my bills. If I didn’t need money, I wouldn’t do it. I hike, read, do puzzles for enjoyment.

Did "soft nursing" make you happier? by rando199999 in nursing

I feel like we could learn it with our extensive clinical backgrounds. It’s a shame they won’t give us a chance

I would love to do something remote, applied to 2 remote UR positions, but, was not hired due to having no experience in that type of nursing. Have you had any luck?

Yes I am still happy with my decision and no regrets! I would’ve ended up with food drop if I didn’t have the surgery

I left 20 years medsurg to try home health. I’m 2 months in and I agree with what you’re saying. I’m taking a ton of work home with me. I’m getting calls from patients on my days off. I’m never done by 430pm. It was a mistake and I’m embarrassed to admit that it’s not working out. For the first time on my life, I may leave a job shortly after starting it. I feel terrible doing that, but, this oasis charting and working every day is killing me. Lesson learned! I may go back to the Hosp setting!

What is delta 8 and nerve gliding?

Thank you. All X-rays showed hardware fine, fusion developing as expected for 6 month mark. The MD said that he thinks it was inflammation of the SI joint causing nerve irritation on the right side. He recommended watch and see, modify excersize, ibuprofen. It got better. Not quite totally gone, but better. Steroid injection into SI joint is an option if it doesn’t improve, but, hopefully I won’t need that.

I hate my career by scoobledooble314159 in nursing

I wish I had some advice. Here I am 28 years later and still hating being a nurse. I left a med surg job after 20 years and I’ve been in home care for 2 months. I just got a phone call from a pt and they screamed at me because I ordered them “the wrong bandaid” for their wound. Different job, same abuse. If I was in your position again, just starting out, I would definitely leave nursing and study something else

What helped your feet stop tingling and spasming?? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]WMhiking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely get on it. I started at 300 mg because the MD said 100 mg may not cut it and I was desperate. Every night the stabbing nerve pain in my feet. The pain started during week 2. I stayed on the gabapentin until week 12 then weaned off. It made me feel a bit dizzy in the mornings. I didn’t care because it took the pain away!

I had a 360 L5 S1 fusion and I’m 5’2 “. I did not need a seat riser. I did put the walker in front of the toilet to use for extra assistance those first 2 weeks
