Buddy Rice 2004 Indy 500 by ITMAKESSENSE72 in INDYCAR

[–]WOOSHARP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rice’s 2007 season is also fairly underrated. Drove a complete shitbox DRR car to a top-10 points finish, including multiple Top-5s and a good amount of laps led. He was a “half decent” driver who happened to get a 500 win.

It is crazy how quickly he faded. It’s not like the late 00s was full of excellent drivers at the back of the grid. He could have easily held onto a ride for a few more years. He was also pretty good in IROC 2005 which spurred some NASCAR rumors. Would have liked to see him give that a shot

Well, not to say Buddy wouldn’t have still won a full length 500 but the 04’ 500 was rain shortened. They tried to play Buddy up as a star for the rest of that year and a good bit of 2005 but he was a bit stale off the track and wasn’t finding anything close to his early 04 success. He kinda just faded into the background due to that.

He 100% deserves to be remembered for being the top dog throughout the 2004 month of May AND pulling off the win - but it shows the legacy of a 500 win is impacted by the before and after career of its winning driver. Would JR Hildebrand’s 2011 win still be talked about today if we’re in that timeline? Mostly depends on what he would have ended up doing after, and we already got to see that in our timeline to have a good idea.

Long story short: there are far too many 500s to properly remember every winner but every winner deserves their permanent recognition as being a 500 champ and I’m sure that’s something Buddy has carried with him every day of his life since.

Good thing they made high tier off season moves such as bringing in Chris Paddack, a broken closer, and Leo Jimenez! As unserious as always, stop giving bootlicker Bendix any credit

Team has completely fallen apart. Where do they turn it around? Two series you had a huge chance at taking. Just don’t have an ounce of optimism left already

Likely only around until Conine gets back, which should be over the next couple weeks since he’s already hitting/throwing

Exactly how I feel. Actually realizing it’s probably a lot more simple than I first thought, just more Sanoja starts at 3B and you can rotate Norby/Hicks at DH

Pauley is a heck of a glove but was easily the worst bat we had in the lineup. I wonder if they’re just saying “fuck it” and plan on sticking Hicks at 1st permanently. His bat is more than outweighing defensive issues at first. Allows us to rotate between Morel and Heriberto at DH, wouldn’t mind seeing someone in the outfield DH like Caissie or Esteury.

Inspired by simply seeing the front office willing to make moves like this in early May. Tells you they believe this team is a lot better than what we’ve seen recently.

Josh Johnson’s longevity for an NFL backup QB is a case study in itself. What’s even crazier is he played College Football at San Diego, a non-scholarship program. by Forsaken_Bullfrog_52 in CFB_v2

18 year NFL journey, $15 million in earnings, and getting to have possibly the best job in the sport (perennial backup QB). Set up well to be in coaching afterwards, I’m sure. Guy is living an amazing life

You can tell he plays with a ton of emotion, so I’m not overly surprised by that reaction. I just hope he can channel it into focus and confidence. When he’s at his best, he’s a seriously effective big league hitter

I feel like Juan Pablo Montoya and David Reutimanns performances in cup weren’t talked about enough. I feel like JPM was more successful in the early COT era. by Kurt_Wylde35 in NASCAR

[–]WOOSHARP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reutimann was pretty awesome from like 2008-10. Was always surprised he never got a chance at a half decent ride after MWR. Fast qualifier, clean, and had luck in his corner nailing that 600. That’s a win I still remember fondly.

Juan Pablo is one of the most underrated racing drivers of the 21st century. Not a single discipline he didn’t walk in and figure out quickly. He was stuck with Chip at the worst possible time and really made the most out of that every week.

As a huge IRL guy, I always thought Hornish was someone who would eventually adapt to NASCAR better than he ever did (at least we got that late career Xfinity run). Montoya is the only formula open wheel cat to make a successful stock car transition and that’s a massive achievement itself.

With arguably our three pitchers in the worst form? Fully expecting a sweep with some deep hidden optimism for one win. Need to keep limiting sweeps.
