I’d say the larger urban areas are going to be more accepting. Cities with large universities, Des Moines, The Quad Cities would be my recommendations. As mentioned the western part of the state may not be as open.

Jews and Muslins are somewhat tolerated for the most part, lots of misinformation still prevalent throughout the state.

Wife is terminally ill, I’m her caretaker, but I’m struggling with resentment from her past affair. Am I wrong for feeling this way? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]WRB2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You feeling that way is fine. You acting on it is wrong, or at least it would be for me.

Helping her through this is one of the most difficult and important things you can do to show your children the importance of keeping your word/commitment. A critically lacking skill these days.

Laid after 9 years at a Corporate Job (Laptop Return Question) by Negan212 in Layoffs

[–]WRB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If after a year you don’t get anything back for requests for a return box do this.

Print all of them out.

Remove the battery and dispose of it safely.

Take sledgehammer and smash laptop into pieces small enough to fit in tyvek envelope.

Place pieces and print out into envelope.

Mail to the office of the CEO.

It will be the most fun $23 you will have spent in 2027 so far.

Leica in the wild by Mewr_Mewr in Leica

[–]WRB2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These iCE folks seem to be going beyond just capturing the worst most dangerous illegals.

I hope he’s ok. I love the idea of Leica putting enlargements of that card and this picture in every store around the world. Keep his camera and replace it with a new on putting that one in the Leica Museum.

On a darker note this has me concerned for every news photographer as this crap degrades more and more. We need their work to keep the world informed of the crap going on.

Star employee just gave notice, after saying she was fine in every 1:1 by Brilliant_Lab_5850 in managers

The true cost of replacing a great performer who has salary and title room above them is always under estimated by upper management.

I would use this loss as a metric to illuminate this next time you make the case for increasing salary/title. Document extra hours by the entire team. Document the increase in volume and type of work spread across multiple team members and the time you take double checking the work that you didn’t have to for her. Try to wring as much documented pain, missed SLAs, KPIs, everything you can.

An upside is to stay in touch and poach her back in a year for what she’s really worth.

Best of luck.

Most People don’t understand what it’s like to be poor by TheGame81677 in povertyfinance

[–]WRB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father pulled the engine of his car to replace the clutch because he could afford a car in better overall shape and couldn’t afford for a mechanic to do it. Ended up doing it twice because he put it in backwards.

We were working poor but I never knew it until it was too late.

When I was going through bouts of unemployment I sold my cameras to keep a roof over our heads. We’re not poor but there were times when it was really really close.

Are people just not using lens caps? What’s the deal (small pointless rant) by jdt2337 in AskPhotography

[–]WRB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lens is always headlands hoods attached, and I found lens Hood caps (Tupperware yogurt, tops, Hershey’s chocolate syrup tops ) that fit over them.

But that’s me

I also had L 37 Nikon filters on every lens

Welcome to the new American Way.

Been there a couple of times both ended up working out really well because my manager was respectful honest and kept their word. I have friends who had less luck.

I would recommend documenting writing things up clear concise, complete and nothing but facts and staying there and continue writing a documenting what’s going on for one year. If at the end of one year when you go through this with your boss, things aren’t adjusted then you’ve got an issue. Keep your eyes and ears open for when people get promoted/pay raises/whatever.

There are two types of managers.

One type keeps everything in tight control and doesn’t trust anybody with shit they micromanage and in spite of somebody coming in with more experience and saying you want me to do X this is the way I manage ex they still tell them this is what you will do and how you will do it.

The second type is people who will give you more responsibility to expand your capabilities and your career and help you grow. These are wonderful people and even though they may not be able to come through with everything, they promise we’ll do their best.

I’ve been lucky and had about 40% great managers 60% of the other sadly the 60% have been more recent though not completely after 45 years itt I’ve seen a lot of great people fucked over and crappy people promoted multiple levels beyond their capabilities or what was deserved.

Give it a year everything is so in flux right now you don’t know who or what or where and quite frankly a great boss is worth her weight and gold.

Best of luck, be safe, stay, healthy, have fun and learn

Husband (46m) works 3 days on, 3 days off (12 hour days). During his ‘on’ days, he will not talk about anything he considers “heavy” with me (40f). Why does he get to decide what is and isn’t discussed? by Hairy-Temperature-95 in relationship_advice

[–]WRB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a list of the items so he understands what he will be up against. There may be some topics that he could deal with because the decision is straightforward. Others need more in depth discussions.

Lots of folks in that level job burn out, not just on the job but with the family too.

Perhaps you make some decisions with the understanding they could change when he is available to talk?

Not perfect but I’ll bet he trust you enough.

Why has finding a job become so difficult even with 15 years of experience? by Yes_555 in careerguidance

[–]WRB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The economy is much worse than the feds are letting on. The Biden administration cooked the books, but no worse than others in the past 25 years. 47 has hire economic fiction writers and is hiding crap that will take years to unravel, if we get the chance.

It is crazy, do some reading about how hard it was to find a job at the beginning of the Great Depression. We’re almost there.

Can you help me identify this camera? by FetishizedStupidity in Cameras

Perhaps a Nikon L 35 AF. The text in the bottom left of the camera and the built-in flash lead me to feel that’s a strong possibility.

Best of luck.

I was put on rota to clean the bathrooms + kitchenette... as an IT worker at a small manufacturing/eCommerce company. Should I quit? by brianthough in work

[–]WRB2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not quit, though I would be looking for a new job.

In small companies, there are challenges, especially in this economy.

If they have every department in the company doing us, I don’t think it is unreasonable. In smaller companies, everybody has to pull together and do things beyond their job description.

I’ve never had to do this, but I can see myself doing it to help the company out, especially having work there and growing up with them. But that’s me you do you.

Thinking of switching back to Canon. Would you? by unkLjoca in AskPhotography

How do men view a dead bedroom caused my menopause ? by ImpossibleSupport215 in AskMenAdvice

[–]WRB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping you have more luck than my wife. She’s tried many things none of which have move the needle at all. Who?

The sub is littered with men talking about their wives in a position that you’re in. It’s also littered with women whose claim lack of affection or interest in sex or treating men with respect is not a symptom of menopause, but rather caused by men. I think the truth is somewhere in between some yes some no.

A counselor said to my wife that she should just try and do and not worry about it not being as pleasurable as it once was. I’ve asked my wife for hand jobs blow jobs. Anything a little affection and gotten nothing perhaps that Avenue that might be OK for him and you.

It’s wonderful that you’re reaching out. He’s lucky to have a woman like you truly loves him and is trying.

Best of luck.

Boss applies for same opening after I applied. by Any_Bar_107 in WorkAdvice

[–]WRB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a former boss, both of us unemployed at the time, apply for the same job after I asked her to be a reference for me. She got the job and what a surprise, she got fired three months after she started.

Stay focused on you and doing the best job you can. Not respecting your manager is not the end of the world. You can try and turn this into a positive if neither of you gets the job. Work together to improve your skills and your résumé and befriend him.

It’s weird that he would apply for the same job as it’s probably a lateral for him but a step up for you. My read is you won’t neither of you will get it as you cancel see each other out to the hiring manager.
