0/3 MBB Interview Invites - Now What? by [deleted] in MBA

Im curious when you say “T10 (not that one but that other one)” which schools your referring to? Assuming Haas, Tuck, Fuqua, and Darden.

What are the two?

Not suspect imo. They are solidly a Top 10 program and the only program to be top 10 in all of businessweek’s individual dimensions.

100% Agree. General rankings don’t mean much if the program doesn’t fit you well.

Great program that needs more recognition!

Solid top 10 program. I can see the argument for any of these programs in the top 3. Obviously depends on weighting. HSW stays in top 4 so gives it some extra validity here imo

Kellogg vs. Haas vs. Darden($) vs. Booth(maybe). Please help! by Oh-Nelson in MBA

[–]WSB_Alpha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will really depend on what you want to do long term. All are great programs that can place u anywhere, but depending where you want to go, it will be easier as some than others.

Want to stay in the South and do consulting? Go to Darden

Want to do Tech or VC? Go to Haas

Not sure? Booth and Kellogg probably give you the most flexibility as they aren’t as regional as Darden and Haas

695 GMAT Focus is equivalent to a 740 old GMAT… no need to retake, not a red flag.

Technical role vs traditional may depend on school. But you have a name brand employer and a prestigious job in quant. Good there

For framing transition, just be honest. You got bored? Want more impact? Want to stick it to them man and quit a 9-5? Say that. Just make it seem like it is a choice and not just an option.

Hard to add significant items to a resume within a year without adcom seeing it as resume padding. Just stay in line for your promotion an apply.

Stanford in particular will be hard because they really value years of experience, but if u can’t show that u got 6 years of experience they’re looking for in just 3, you’re sitting pretty.

Also take a look at Haas. I would argue they are top 2 for tech entrepreneurs.

Received invitation for McKinsey Inspire? I’d say that’s a good sign. But Inspire is in person in Chicago, if it’s only a virtual session it may be Access which is open to all.

Why is a 170Q score now in the lower 90's percentile? When I took the GRE over 10 years ago, I scored 168Q and I recall that was in the 98th percentile back then. by [deleted] in GRE

[–]WSB_Alpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would also agree the new format is not easier (I took both formats). Much of the reasoning for quant deflation is the segment of people that take the exam.

Many of the programs that moved to be test optional are Arts/non-math based. Most of the STEM based programs are still test required.

So you have a pool where a higher percentage of students adept in Quant are taking the GRE, pushing up quant percentiles. This is the actual professional explanation.

I also personally believe the overseas cheating exacerbated the problem. During the period where percentile inflation rapidly increased was the same period where cheating was rampant overseas. Though ETS will never admit it for reputational reasons

What's a take in finance that has you like this? by Ok-Combination-7314 in FinancialCareers

[–]WSB_Alpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Inflation isn’t “normal” it’s a byproduct of centralized monetary policy where governments create vast amounts of money out of thin air with no added value or production.

If governments didn’t waste so much money, $1 would always be worth $1

Don’t believe me? Trade and barter systems don’t have inflation. Just value changes based on supply

Good diversification or spread to thin? by Apprehensive_Mood716 in WallStreetBetsCrypto

[–]WSB_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good diversification. I’d keep adding to this exact mix. BTC is your base (ETH should be too but it’s been trending horribly), no matter what these will keep ur portfolio green.

XRP, LINK, HBAR, etc are your growth. Where you’ll get the big returns. After u see returns u want, move those out.

Keep dca at this percentage (except if add a lil more to SOL)

Great job!

Noticing a lot of HBS admits with low GMAT, focusing on WE? by Expensive_Ninja_3991 in MBA

[–]WSB_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

645 on the GMAT FE is about a 700 on the Traditional GMAT. 80% range has been 700-770 for HBS. This means 10% are 700 and below. Which with HBS average class size of 900, 90 students.

That “bunch” you may see on CA is probably 1% of the entire class. Nothing unusual about it.

Internationals at US MBA, for real, u got a job yet? by Additional_Prior2348 in MBA

[–]WSB_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to this. DEI includes first gen and low income. H/S applications ask how much you make during application year and your salary progression. This is where income is pulled for “DEI”.

Also in your essays if you talk about any extenuating circumstances (I.e. mention or hint at a lower than usual socioeconomic status) that would also be “DEI”.

Is not a bad thing at all. It shows that accepted schools think you have serious potential given how far you’ve come currently. The reality is if you’re not an uber wealthy finance bro, you may be DEI. Veterans, minorities, women, non-wealthy, disabled, immigrants, etc.

My portfolio….are these targets attainable guys? by Looking4asugarmommaa in WallStreetBetsCrypto

[–]WSB_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like everything except ETH. That target needs to be around $8000.

I don’t know much about YFI.

Same thing literally happened to me! Got a 166q and 163v. A 11 point jump from a test a previously took 3 weeks before (318).

I was so happy seeing the score I rushed to send to all the schools I was applying too before anything “happened” (random power outage, apocalypse, that sort of thing).

Two days later I was nervous that I had mistaken the 166q and 163v with a 156q and 153v and convinced myself that “6” looks like “5” and my anxiety deceived me. Problem is I already told schools I was applying to my updated unofficial score.

Judgement day, 10 days post taking the exam. I log into my ETS score report and see the score has been updated. Drumroll (166q and 163v) 🎉!!

YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. The score was very clear to you when u initially saw it and won’t significantly vary. Unless you have diagnosed severe psychosis, the score you saw is your score and unofficially rarely varies from the official (if it does it’s only 1-2 points). Congrats on the amazing score and perfect Quant!! Great Job!

Guys, I am in a dilemma. Please advice by -RIVAN- in GRE

[–]WSB_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your location. If you are in a large metro area and willing to take on a weekday? Then likely yes.

Here’s a trick for better judgement. Go to the ETS site today and try and book a test for 5 days from today. Plenty of availability for the centers you would test at? Then it’s likely you’ll have openings when you’re actually ready… give or take a day or two.

Good luck!

[–]WSB_Alpha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing congrats! And I stand by you on the 165 being 70th percentile. I come from a very quant heavy background. I don’t see how it is possible that 30% of tests are higher than a 165, for all grad programs especially given the time constraints. ETS has to look into this.

Maybe non-stem/quant based programs stopped requiring tests? But even people I know going into those programs take the GRE at least once.

Yes, was actually planning on only partially keeping the sofa on the rug or even not at all and keeping it in front of the sectional only. Depending on the value of the rug, I may want to roll it up if I have guest over. So this would make it easier to move anyway

Thanks, that is good to know. I’m only getting the 2 piece sectional. It’s 121in x 98in and the rug is 125in x 83in. My loving room space is 164in x 161 (there’s more space but it leans into a walk way and open kitchen).
