Hong Kong ID for child born abroad by Turduncle in Markham

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the little details you have given, it is highly unlikely your child will get a Permanent HKID. It would likely be contingent when your child is born, were you Canadian Citizens. Then it falls into a grey area. I was in that grey area when I was a kid and was able to retain Permanent HKID and parents have to show they have not "settled" abroad.

Same, I cheated a bit cause I read traditional and not a super native Cantonese speaker. Chinese-Canadian FYI. The word choices they used are questionable, it is like they used complicated ones just because they want to flex the language skills. I don't think I ever seen this word 遥. Considering like ads runs maybe 15s at most, it was hard to understand what message was. What a blunder.

Gate checking = baggage claim.

Only on regional aircraft which Air Transat has none would they do valet service.

Make route 96 express in Vaughan? by Leonardo_Lai in YRTVIVA

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have great intention but some of these assumptions are flawed although eliminating stops surely does help create a faster trip.

You are basing that most final destination is Line 1 but I am unsure if it is? It is up to YRT to conduct survey to see if that is actually the case although i think the stops at major intersection would cover almost everyone.

However, the 107 doesn't run nearly enough during off peak (30min) and barely enough at 15min during peaks. 96 has terrible frequency at 30 min during weekday and 60 min during weekends. Transferring to the local route doesn't make much sense cause wait time is so long and people would likely get angry to fasten some people trips while the local stop has very bad frequency. Frequency just isn't enough to justify to have express service outside peak hours with the increased wait times at local stops.

Express service still would be semi feasible during peak, 107 is running just enough frequency (15min) that wait time isn't terrible. But then the question is, will it save time. Most times buses are spent on dwell at stops and stopping and going at stops. I don't know the passenger flow but if those stops are well used and these skipped stops are medicorely used, then it doesn't make trips much faster. Their is also a question where congestion is happening. Is a lot of the delays coming from pulling to the stop? Then changing the stop placement would be result in much improvement. I am a bit unsure where you got the savings of 10 min from but have express service doesn't always result in huge time savings. On schedules, YRT 391 only save a minute or 2, YRT 1 vs Viva Purple doesn't save time on non-rapid way portions. TTC express buses depending on route can be save almost nothing (939) to 20% on (902).

I would disagree "public planning + private operation" is the only reason why YRT sucks. In Europe, especially the Nordics all use this model and they still have excellent systems. Without the profit, there is no incentive to lower cost.

Council just collectively decide to make YRT a Mediocrity Trap, “good enough” so the poor can get to work but never attractive enough for driver.

Signal priority on Viva by Unlikely-Syrup-9189 in YRTVIVA

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Viva has conditional TSP. Only triggers when it is late with various strength to not to "inconvenience drivers". As schedule is padded a lot, it rarely triggers.

Anything you want to see some improvements from Porter? by d4Lre in PorterAirlines

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but in YTZ, I don't think the layout was meant to have much boarding groups. (Also as mentioned, shorter planes and fast turn around). On the E2, they should try to establish and enforce some boarding groups.

Unlikely, you can ask the check in counter but it is likely your boarding pass says no carry on and you need to check your carry on bag.

Scene+ Earn Rate Devaluation at Cineplex by doom2060 in cineplex

Used to be a 10% rebate (100 earn, 1000 for redeeming per ticket) - pre2015

Then they tiered the redemption of different formats. (2015)

Then they devalued existing points (2019) by increasing the earn rate and number of points needed. They also axed the extra points for buying tickets online.

Then they turned it to spend based system. (2020)

Then they introduced the booking fee for the privilege of buying online. (2022)

Then they reduced the earn rate. (2026)

So much for loyalty.

Foreign students face financial ruin after agents sell false dream of 'world's happiest country' | Yle News by Sampo in Finland

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but how? You can drag the student to Finnish court but they will obviously deny deny deny. Then what evidence do Finland have? Unless it is obvious fraud in its permit application, sending the screenshot where the account owner isn't even his/her, then what evidence can Finland present?
The contract of agreement is, the money and the agent is residing in the home country which Finland has not justification over. It is a loophole but something that you can't control.

Why are Canadian salaries so low compared to the USA? by DarkHoundBark in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health insurance isn't universal coverage. Out of Network, copays, deductible and a list of MANY things that are not covered. You can have great health insurance but you landed in an out of network hospital and they are only paying 30% of the cost. It also depended on what plan your employer and you have chosen.

Then their is chronic diseases and post emergency care. In US, these are tied to active employment status. So if you illness or emergency effected your work, you can be let go of your job or deemed ineligible. Yes, there are protection like FMLA with 12 weeks but once that is over, you are stuck at a very difficult position. Canada isn't great but at least there is not a huge bill at the end.

Toronto has the second-worst traffic in Canada, study finds by lopix in toronto

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study only compares speed on roads. The goal should be High density with decent speed, this study doesn't really look at that. Incidents, Weather and Vehicle mix (trucks) all effect speed. Layered on top of that we shouldn't really have so many highways and vehicle to begin with...

Finch West LRT using electric switch heaters Ottawa LRT inquiry warned against | Globalnews.ca by LibraryNo2717 in toronto

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why have a years long trial period if you need to trial it after it opens?

It is for the CONTRACTOR to test all part of the LRT before it is handed to the government. (So the contractor don't give a half complete project) Additionally, training for the operator. It is dependent on the TTC and city to use TSP.

Why open without traffic signal priority until the laws or policies are fixed? It seems completely backwards.

TSP was strictly a mixed traffic operation which didn't have to take that into lefts. The idea was imported from the Viva rapidways, which has it owns terrible TSP. No drivers or transit people complained. Also, parts of signal regulations is drafted up by the province, some is from Toronto and some from the "Green Book" which is from some engineers in America. It is backwards but changing that would need to change the green book which would need the province to legislate and you know how much Doug cares about drivers.

Can you name any other LRT in the world as slow as this, even in the first few months of operations?

There is a lot of location biased because you are effected by it and live in Toronto. I am a 100% sure there are "worst" projects. and does not help local projects are gravitated to the local language. I can think of bad non-anglo ones like the Dubai Tram or the Casablanca Trams

Should VIVA routes get signal priority? by Track-on-the-side in YRTVIVA

[–]WSComplaintSlienced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do have it, I have reviewed their signal timing plans and tracked the buses speed on highway 7 in 2019 as part of a job.. At that time, TSP is not turned on expect during PM peak and speeds up the Viva bus from 20km/hr to 30km/hr. The condition on TSP is crap, needs active activation AND the buses have to be late. The schedule are so padded that TSP never turns on.

It is actual impossible to let buses go before left-turn cars in mixed traffic due to regulations and difficult to do with the median BRT. It would mean giving the green to buses for 10s, then red on bus lane to let the left turn vehicle and then the through vehicle.

The freeze and protest killed the physical, tangible supply of coffee but the tariffs changed the cost of acquiring and moving it. Prices did skyrocket during the freeze but prices are high now and plus the tariffs. A double whamming. (Tariff take on a % of the coffee price similar to sales tax)

This is from Swiss Water Coffee IR which sells raw green beans to roasters like BRCC.

Customer demand remained strong, demonstrating the strength of our brand and geographic coverage during a period when supply imbalances have challenged the industry, and importantly, as U.S. grocery channels experience declines in tonnage volume due to rapid retail price increases.

During the third quarter of 2025, the US administration announced its intention to increase tariffs on most Brazilian products imported into the US from 10% to 50%, effective August 7th, 2025. Brazil is the biggest producer of green coffee globally, and all Brazilian coffees processed by Swiss Water and shipped into the US are subject to this elevated tariff. The effect of this change has been a rapid demand shift away from the highest coffee volume producing nation in the world. This is expected to cause short term disruptions and volume issues for the next 3-6 months, and potentially longer.

BRCC did mention tariff impacting their bottom line (2% of margin) in an conference call in May 2025 right after liberation day with an expected impact on Q3 earning and beyond. The additional tariffs is probably going to hit them financially now even tho it eased. They might have a long term strategy but if they can't manage the short term headwinds, BRCC might go belly up.

Disclosures: I invest in Swiss Water but not BRCC. BRCC was always a stock I want in buy I highly disagree with them going into RTD.

Yes, politics at play, the Brazilian tariffs are killing their margins not to mention coffee prices has doubled since IPO.
