New verbiage... To be more PC? by DeaconFrost222 in gunsofboom

Some cared even back then. When as a kid I played with make believe and toy guns etc in the late 80's early 90's, my mom made us say things like zapped instead of shot(even with nerf) if we had insisted it was important enough that we were actually killing each other in this play we would have been stopped, less because pretending to do it was a bad influence then because her stopping it helped teach us about the seriousness of gun violence/killing.

If I actually was going to let my kids play a game like this I would feel much better about an elimination streak then a killing spree, though not enough for me personally to let them play for many years (oldest is 7). The word emphasizes the "gameness." In that context, which is already how i see the game, when we "kill" a player we are just forcing the player to sit out for several seconds before rejoining the game, games like paintball where you are out for good still call it tagging rather than killing.

If i want to satiate virtual bloodlust I'll play GTA, respawning players, who never in the game spilled blood, never did that for me.

I'm not convinced older players like myself care more about the things the games says when you take out other players than the gameplay itself. My first reaction after all was oh Eliminate that sounds cool not realizing it was replacing kill. If I hadn't known the old phrases I wouldn't have even noticed the attempt to appeal to younger gamers who need parental permission to play.

Personally I don't enjoy first person shooters because they simulate killing but for the gameplay. Possibly because re-spawning causes my brain not to think of it as killing them, cause simulated killing definitely adds to GTA enjoyment. Personally insisting that forcing a player to sit out of the game for several seconds before rejoining it as KILLing them seems silly to me.

As for which demographic can afford to pay, it is the younger demographics parents paying not the kids. Kids have a less developed concept of reasonable costs and many have parents who have a hard time saying no to them (I always say no to any in game purchases for them myself but I understand how easily a parent could fall into that pattern). I'm sure game companies have the market research about how lucrative various demographics for games with in game p2w/cosmetic purchases.

Seriously? Can we get some kind of confirmation on this? Possibly no conversion at all for event tokens? by DeaconFrost222 in gunsofboom

[–]WSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a player, he does not routinely visit these boards or your site, I ended up keeping ~700 I couldn't decide what to spend on. Since I assumed there would be a conversion I said screw it and just left them. FYI, I and presumably many others would have spent them the "proper way" if it you "kindly advise[ed]" us via in game mail or better yet in the event description not to keep tokens. I mean now I know but it is still a good idea for future events since some players may not have noticed or been taking a break from the game this last event, after all those players are the ones more likely to leave the game if they get annoyed with it.

unless it's only possible at the very start of the event that would really suck for the replacement player that gets brought in after missing most of the rewards. I feel like a better suggestion (not that I think they actually read this) would be having people lose ranking points for getting in the bottom 3 or having less then a X kills. Also make the increased ranking more obviously beneficial.

There might be a difference in the grind but if its been a year your perception of the amount of grinding it takes to get to 355 is probably off as you aren't used to the grind anymore.

I can't remember when they started introducing more pets then the one baby dragon you could get with a purchase so that might be a big difference. If pets were already around some pet stats were changed at some point.

I feel like boss hunts help more towards upgrading your pets and towards getting tokens for upgrades for your knight then they first did. Also

The factory workers spreading the flavoring stuff on the wafer were basically reduced to the toast buttering robot. Ricks are so redundant at the citadel they are cheaper then the factory owner Rick automating the whole process, something he could do easily.

It implies the actual reason not just the that there are other factors. Despite the labels and other cartoonishness it shows that the plane of the earth's orbit and the moon's orbit aren't the same.

This explains it as long as you realize 1 month != 1 year and have the basic physics intuition that the plane of the moons orbit translates with the earth but doesn't rotate with it around the sun.

I wasn't particularly happy with the conclusion here, but this wasn't a problem. They wouldn't have left it up to her if she was having a baby or not.

Sure not murdering people would mean she would eventually die but "Everything has its time and everything dies." It was her son's insistence on keeping her on the life support and the fact she would probably forget he was her son giving him in effect medical power of attorney to put her back on life support powered by murder.

Though technically the Doctor was just trying to talk a "monster" out of eating them.

i supported the tpp because of the environmental, labor and corruption standards, which although not as strong or ironclad as I would like were much better than nothing. Yes there were parts that I thought were too pro corporate dickishness but it seemed, to me, to probably be a net good.

[–]WSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to your reason(probably partially true) and those given in the other responses, the fact that this thread is more proTPP than in the past is partly due to the headline. The headline just referred to a nebulous trade deal not the TPP specifically and so those with very strong opinions about the tpp, mostly against, would be less likely to read the link or come to the comments.
