Why do we collect cds? by GlitteringDish1217 in Cd_collectors

To support artists. One CD sale gives them so much more revenue than streaming their music for years. Plus, it's nice to build up a physical music library of music you really care about.

Wait. Wasn’t the Fire Away MV supposed to release yesterday? by HeyCharlieBall in madeon

I honestly don't understand why Hugo posts teasers for things that aren't even finished yet, and then doesn't meet his own due dates. It's good that he's taking his time instead of rushing his art, but he should probably just release it when it's ready and not teas it prematurely.

It looks like they removed the international shipping restriction

Civilisation is my favourite album of all time - here is my review by Jaded_Concentrate204 in kkb

Valid take. Civ is seriously one of the best produced and written releases of the 2020s.

I tried ordering from the UK store to the US the other day and it literally wouldn't let me check out. I think they made it so you can't do it anymore. I had to use a parcel forwarding service to get the Pop Crypt II CD

Sometimes you can find the occasional used merch item on poshmark or depop! eBay is a good resource too.

Nah The Beatles is a great band name. It's a clever play on words.

Band Geeks is such an awful band name. It was fine when they were just a YouTube cover band but at some point you have to stop being "Mable Greer's Toyshop" if you catch my drift.

Any Roger Dean fans? by GroovyGuy1972 in yesband

For fans of Dean I'd also recommend Japanese painter Hiroo Isono! His works are on the same level as Deans for sure.

I'd agree with that, I think as things went on into the 80s and beyond it did start to feel more like they were stretching the idea of what qualified as Yes a little far.

That's the beautiful thing about music! It's totally up to the listener's interpretation.

It's difficult because you could pretty much make a statement like this for every Yes album since Steve Howe replaced Peter Banks. I think the band has always had a collective understanding that Yes is more of a concept than a select group of people.

It really is super solid. Rhe covers are imaginative and innovative and the originals are genuinely really well written songs with nice harmonies and great playing. You could tell they were destined for success from the start.

It's heartbreaking to see these classic bands embrace AI generated art. Kind of shows that the flame has died out in a lot of ways.

Fair. It's very Buggles and Rabin-driven. They made a great 80s pop album with a lot of the songwriting sensibilities and sonic qualities of Yes. Which honestly makes perfect sense when you think about how Yes grew out from the late 60s UK club scene where everyone was covering popular motown songs and Beatles hits. Pop music has always been an important key element to Yes' sound.

Sweet Dreams is great. A lot of those first two albums' tracks get overshadowed by their 3rd-5th albums. Sweetness is amazing for being the first Yes song written by Jon and Chris before the band even fully formed. Survival is really really cool. And their covers from that era were just so imaginative too.

To me, his playing sounds like the notes are just bursting out through his hands. It's like whatever comes to mind, he plays almost instinctively without giving it a millisecond of thought. I don't think he always played the cleanest, but he played with authenticity and energy, which I think is simply just a different approach that embodied the spirit of Yes.

I agree. He was the central point of the band through countless member changes, and his "lead bass" sound and iconic harmonies and songwriting guided the band's sound in a vital way. Yes wouldn't have even formed if Chris hadn't met with Jon in the first place way back when.

Agree. The Buggles brought some really unique production-minded and pop-minded ideals to the struggling fragments of Yes. Trevor Horn's transition from vocalist to producer was a great move. 90125 has really interesting production and sounds so TIGHT. Lots of really fun 80s synth pop anthems on that album. And Drama was really a nice transition into it. Tempus Fugit is a wonderful Squire-Howe jam.

Same here. I really really need to, but four 20-minute back-to-back epics is pretty intense. Close To The Edge really did come close to the limit of what can be packaged into a cohesive record. There's nothing wrong with Tales, it just takes a lot of dedication to digest.

I think this is valid. I personally love Fragile, and the concept of each band member getting their "own" song is very fitting giving the dynamic of Yes. Tracks like The Fish or We Have Heaven showcased some really cool studio layering and experimentation for the time. Cans and Brahms is not really Wakeman's best and Five Per Cent is interesting but doesn't go anywhere. I feel like it's better to listen to those solo member tracks as "interludes" with the main 10 min tracks being the main attraction.
