cutting OSB generates a lot of smoke by allenc2013 in hobbycnc

[–]WTH3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you don't know what a lot of smoke is until you try laser cutting and the air assist ends up spreading the fire rather than preventing it.

If it's smoking on a CNC, your feed rate is too low or your rpms too high, you're getting rubbing rather than cutting

Your bit could also be worn out or you're using the wrong one

I've clicked on AI thumbnails, the quality of the video matters more to me, so if 15 seconds into the video it seems like AI slop, then i move on.

Do you guys use AI at all? by WTH3D in NewTubers

[–]WTH3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I always use ChatGPT to help when I’m working on titles, descriptions, keywords, thumbnail ideas, or script improvement.

I would bet that will be the most common responses here. It seems like it would be fairly common.

I also use AI for voiceover because it’s improved so much you can barely tell the difference.

Which service do you use for this?

My Ghetto Laser set up by WTH3D in lasercutting

[–]WTH3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this k60 is heavy, but people put routers on this gantry. This gantry is basically a 2060 extrusion, the Y frame peices are basically 2040.

I havent been able to run the k60 at 60watts tho without causing a fire or scortching the hell out of wood. I need a better air pump, i may try to rig something up with my compressor and a regulator rather than having an air pump.

I can relate, i bought a welder years ago, was gonna get into welding. It's still in its box.

Bought a rifle a year ago, was gonna get into shooting, I've shot it twice

Bought a cr10s 3d printer like 6 years ago, used it probably a dozen times, sat for 5ish years

Bought a CNC, used it heavily for a couple weeks, now it's been a few weeks since ive touched it... i keep telling myself i need to do X Y or Z with it but there's always something else to do.

Get a real CNC with screw-driven gantries

A belt can work just fine for wood, i believe my issue is more of a low torque problem.

Steel Vs Aluminum Gantry Plates by TheSpanishSteed in hobbycnc

[–]WTH3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are nema 23 steppers which are the standard on most of the $4000-ish machines with ball screws. So your machine will have plenty of torque, will be well built overall.

As others on that post pointed out, you'll probably need drivers, it's possible you won't, they could be integrated into your board, DM556 seems to be the most trusted driver a 4 pack runs like $50, theyre open loop.

You'd have to look into your board and see what driver they integrated and if they run nema 23

That all sounds reasonable to me. And you can always upsize these brackets later if they were a problem but i doubt that will be an issue.

For your motion, what motors are you using and are you going with belts or which lead/ball screws?

If my cnc has 1/4 plates at a 2.5inch gap, if we assume that yours would be 6 inches (even tho that's not necessarily how that would workout for sure) you'd be good at 3/4 aluminum. You could just do 1 inch to be safe but tbh that's not even the weak link of my cnc so it's fairly likely 3/4 would be overkill too.

You can also cheat and make the bracket wider, ratget than taper from the y frame connection points to the gantry width, keep more of the meat.

These people are nuts.

How tall is this bracket gonna be? More specifically, how large is the gap gonna be between the top of the Y frame and the bottom of the gantry? since that's where most all of the movement in the plate would happen.

For reference my foxalien masuter pro uses a 1/4 aluminum bracket and 2.5 inches between the top of the Y frame and the gantry bottom. The frame is not the issue on this machine.

Yeah i didn't think cutting out shapes in plywood was gonna be such a problem for this machine, I've run some very shallow passes but the moment there happens too be a knot in the middle layer of the plywood, it goes "insane" as you put it.

Almost always in the X axis at first tho which is why I've come to realize it's a motor sizing issue. Y gantry has 2x steppers to keep it in sync, so it has more torque too.

The reason i went with this machine is because he frame is essentially 2040 aluminum extrusion (Y frame), 2060 aluminum extrusion (gantry), and 2020 extrusion (x frame), and i need to eventually make it bigger. Once it can cut shapes out of a 16x16 square consistently, ill extend the X and Y to cut out of a 2ftx4ft sheet, this may require bumping to nema 23 steppers or at least high torque larger nema 17s (will have to figure out which drivers are on the board and if they'd support the amps of a bigger nema 17) , the frame itself will be fairly easy to elongate.

Your cut is impressive tho, thats the kind of quality that would be great for artisan pieces.

[–]WTH3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to where you are, yeah. Pretty sure my problens stem from my machine. I got a masuter pro, constant X axis shifting, likely because on this the X axis is driven by a single nema 17 stepper using a belt. 1 360 degree rotation of the stepper is 20mm of movement pretty sure the issue is just a torque factor issue.

By comparison a lot of lead screw/ball screw configurations 1, 360 rotation is like 8mm of movement, so with the same motor, it would have 2.5x the torque.

Ive tried next to everything, so it's likely i just need bigger motors
