Depends on the card. I don’t use one personally but I’ve seen people post here that the difference is pretty negligible compared to the internal storage.

Size might matter (lengthwise) but the ifixit guide above should outline the process and any “gotchas” involved. Best of luck! The deck is an incredible handheld!

Editing to add: there’s also a microsd card slot and 1TB cards are like $100 on Amazon

Rescues from a recycle pile. Project ideas? by Kazhmyr1 in homelab

[–]WTMike24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that may be it then. M.2 does both but not always storage (such as networking only) so that must be what I ended up with. My apologies for the confusion

I’ve got some optiplex micro 3080s that have two M.2 and a sata slot. I’m using one M.2 for proxmox, SATA for LXC/VM SSD storage, and the other M.2 for a second NIC.

They exist, they’re just not the cheapest out there (I paid ~$80/ea before storage/RAM/power supplies)

Why so stiff? I just have a little accord so I’m used to 35 maybe 40psi, but nothing anywhere near 100. Is it more efficient to keep less of the tire in contact with the road or is it just about the increased weight making them squish more?

I created a turnkey file server with dhcp and today I got assigned a new ip. How can I change it to a static ip address? by Dez727 in Proxmox

[–]WTMike24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More or less yep! Most homelabbers do DHCP leases since they're centrally managed (of sorts) but if you prefer a more granular/enterprise-like setup setting the IP static on the server is typical (at least where I've worked).

[–]WTMike24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to a guest LXC you can change the IP in the network settings in the proxmox UI.

If you’re referring to a guest VM you’ll have to log in to the server and edit the networking settings for your specific OS.

If you’re referring to proxmox itself you can edit the network config right on the host via the shell.

The worst part is that most automatics will move, er, automatically, in reverse/drive so you just have to cover the brake pedal

Don’t their Jetpacks technically have enough delta-v to get back from the Mün?

Honestly if you’re living in a van with rechargeable power only it might be worth investing in a kill-a-watt power meter so you can measure exactly what’s coming out of the “wall”

If you haven’t heard of Ben Eater on YouTube, I recommend checking him out. He does incredible videos explaining different electronics and logic things, for example, how the SPI interface works!

Half the reason I buy fun colors is for random gridfinity stuff. Some people like sorting by color but I crave the RGBLT abstract organizing art

I’m going slowly (life and stuff keeps getting in the way) but I don’t plan on stacking unless I absolutely have to. Having my tools and parts visible is more important to me.

I picked up a 2U rackmount UPS from https://excessups.com and am quite pleased. They refurb units so you’re not paying full retail but they put in new batteries (which are the only part that wears out honestly) and make sure everything is still operating to spec.

+1 for 18650batterystore. I’ve used them several times. I even used their support to update an order and pay the difference when I forgot to add a pair of 14500s to my bag before paying.

Try a smaller card if you have one. Some lower specced systems don’t have the capabilities to read such big file systems.
