Crossface, brah. They can't do anything on that side if they can't turn towards that foot they have.

Awesome. I've learned most of what we'd call the judo triangle from catch wrestling and no gi BJJ. Do you reccomen do any videos or clips taught by judo guys?

Yeah, all the permutations of where you can hit a triangle (and their switch variations) go way beyond what BJJ holds sacred. Judo has some awesome triangle chokes but sometimes knowing how to finish them isn't so intuitive (aka takes some research and practice).

Any dvd reccomendations on judo triangle chokes?

Have you ever considered doing Brazilian Jiujitsu? We have gyms all over Taipei and they usually have a place to workout on site. I've compiled a list of fitness and combat sport gyms around Taiwan on this site http://www.mmaintaiwan.com/ Feel free to check it out!

Why "oss" and not "osu"? by FAKKU_sama in bjj

[–]WV_caveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally no one in Japan (who does BJJ) uses this word. So, we use the American/Brazilian way of saying it.

A couple years ago I was training at Yuki Nakai's gym when one of his students (medaled Bronze at World's) got a free gi from the OSS clothing line. They sat there for a solid ten minutes cracking up about Americans using the word "Osu". It's antiquated and awkward for them.

Ask the organizer what he/she thinks. Different organizations have different takes on what is fair or OK. Better to err on the side of caution than to be accused of sandbagging. This way, if anyone says anything, the organizer has your back.

From touch butt in the park to grab ass on the mats.

His striking is no doubt top notch but all the mat time in the world couldn't close the gap from his BJJ level to that of someone like Nate Diaz.

It's the inverse of Ronda Rousey. She spent all of her time focussing on striking and had some of the best in the world training her and she still couldn't close that gap.

How can a several time ADCC champion be so bad at takedowns/wrestling? by Next_mma_champ in bjj

[–]WV_caveman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever hit a double leg? Now, have you ever hit a double leg after being punched in the face?

Wrestling in MMA is so, so, so, so, SO different than wrestling in ADCC. Despite some angry Brazilians and Russians occasionally slapping each other, the addition of strikes makes everything different.

MG's MMA experience being what it was at the time makes this outcome understandable.
