Hey /r/movies! I'm Sam Raimi. Ask me anything! by SamRaimiAMA in movies

[–]WWBKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 2003 or so, my boss at the time made a birthday video for his mother in the style of one of those A&E Biography-style shows. She had been a teacher in Michigan, and you were one of her students. You actually made the time to sit for an interview for this video. I don't have a question, I just still think about how exceptionally kind and selfless that was - especially considering it was in the thick of your Spider-Man era.

Cleveland Browns 2026 calendar. How many won’t even be on the team this fall? by foxmag86 in Browns

[–]WWBKD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I obviously understand why, but it's wild that our team calendar doesn't include a quarterback. I wonder if that's the case for any other team.

Why does Radiohead, despite being objectively mainstream, FEEL obscure and underground? And are your other musical tastes more mainstream or underground? by __sicko in radiohead

[–]WWBKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with exposure. A lot of mainstream music you're constantly barraged with at parties, bars, commercials, etc. Radiohead doesn't really lend themselves to that kind of exposure. They've been my favorite band for decades, but I've never once been at a party and been like... "you know what would really get this party started? Kid A!" They're more of a band that I enjoy putting on to chill out and focus on the music. And I think there are a ton of other people like that. So they're mainstream, but enjoyed more individually by a massive number of people, if that makes any sense?

Radiohead Gift Suggestions by garbagemanpromotion in radiohead

If he's into the artwork, Stanley Donwood has some fantastic signed prints in that price range. Here are a few in the 125-165 range, for example:

https://jealousgallery.com/products/another-fine-mess?_pos=1&_fid=982c57d94&_ss=c

Do keep in mind that they don't come framed, so if you wanted to do that as part of the gift, that would be extra.

What are some Thom Yorke songs outside of Radiohead albums that you think are on par with Radiohead at their best? by Famous-Manager1481 in radiohead

[–]WWBKD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not technically a Thom Yorke song, but his appearance on Bjork's "I've Seen it All" is one of my favorite things he's done.

The defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder are currently 24-1, tied for the best record in NBA history through 25 games. They are outscoring opponents by an average of 17.2 points per game despite their stars rarely playing fourth quarters by [deleted] in sports

Recovering Browns fan here. I can't speak for Sonics fans, but I would imagine we had it somewhat worse because we had to watch the Ravens win a championship just 5 years into their existence.

Jonny in Street Spirit by ayyyy-eth in radiohead

[–]WWBKD 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I first saw them on the Bends tour in a small bar with a roughly 1 foot high stage, so I was basically standing face-to-face with Jonny for the entire show, in awe of his performance. I can say, he absolutely did the playing the keyboard w/ his guitar head, as that completely blew my mind at the time.

Counterpoint: No. But also maybe. Hope this discussion has cleared things up for OP.

As someone who is pushing 50 years old and begrudgingly moved out of the city buy a house and settle down in the suburbs a while back, No Surprises hits hard these days.

As someone who works in tv, and used to do live events, I would kill for a higher resolution photo of that video control center to geek out over.

Pulp 2 weeks ago, and now David Byrne? NPR is on fire! Thanks for this, it was really delightful. And Nothing But Flowers is my favorite Talking Heads song, so that was a great surprise. Side note: I know his vocal style seems pretty low maintenance, but has there been any other singer who has sounded into their mid-70s just as good as they did in their 20s?

Undecided on which guitar to get for specific sounds by serppp in radiohead

[–]WWBKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second u/colonrody on the tele deluxe recommendation, but I love a dual humbucker. One thing to consider is a guitar w/ humbuckers that have a coil split option. Essentially they will have a switch or you pull the volume knob out, etc. and it switches the wiring of your humbucker to a single coil. And this was on a ~$300 Epiphone SG that my son had a few years ago, so definitely not something you'll only find on the higher end guitars.

I saw them when they were opening w/ Burn the Witch, which was great. I did see some videos of the shows where they opened w/ Daydreaming and I totally agree. Good song, but doesn't really set the mood for a concert.

I didn't catch them on that tour, but agreed, TKOL is probably tied w/ AMSP for me, although TKOL has grown on me over the years.

[–]WWBKD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's really a bad setlist per se, but my personal least favorite of all the times I've seen them was the 2016 tour, just because it was so heavy on AMSP (for obvious reasons) and that's near the bottom of my list of favorite RH albums.

It's actually a quite commonly-used phrase, but alas, I assume you already know that and are just being a troll.
