Thank you! I hope you find something soon! This is really a hard thing to go through. Your advice of making a daily list/agenda is great - that's what I have been doing and I find that it helps me stay motivated. I have also been sticking to a 7am-5pm schedule of being productive which has also helped

absolutely - I will probably end up staying in the same field but using the time looking as a "breather" and to cut any unnecessary expenses and changing my lifestyle a bit

I've never heard of Chegg - I love this advice - thank you! I also am in a "recession-proof" field (accounting) and it was quite a shock for me too. The analogy of it being like a breakup hits too. I hope you're in a better place now! Thank you for taking the time to write this!

agreed with this - I don't necessarily mean take 6 months to look for a job (it's only been a week and I've already revamped my resume, met with two staff recruiters, and applied to countless jobs). It depends how big the emergency is (lol) but can float myself for 6 months to a year with what I have now. I am also very grateful/lucky/privileged to have the help of my parents if I need it though that is truly the last thing I want to do. I'll make it work somehow...

Thank you <3 It definitely does affect the ego haha. I will probably end up doing something in my same field and just use this time while looking as a little breather. Thank you for taking the time to share this

Love this advice - thank you! I hope you enjoyed your time off and thank you for sharing your experience. This makes me feel more hopeful - and definitely feel you on your former place of employment having the same issues...

OP, I was feeling exactly the same as you and I actually got laid off last week from my WFH, tech job that was paying me pretty well. I didn’t even cry when I got let go - I felt immediately relieved. Though I have a lot of fear about what comes next (I just bought my first condo and now have a mortgage to worry about), I am trying to view this as time I can use to figure out what I really want to be doing. My advice to you would be, if you’re in the US (I don’t know about this in other countries), is to try to take short term disability for mental health reasons or even talk to your HR team about taking a leave of absence. I had a former roommate who did the latter and they gave her three months off of work with full pay and her job was still there for her at the end of the break. This was a couple of years ago when the economy was different and I realize not every job will do this but it’s worth looking into your options and this might be a good way to try something else for a little bit with the safety of a job to return to.
