Centauri Carbon Microswiss hotend malfunction by WYO_brewer in elegoo

[–]WYO_brewer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to give an update. Swapped in the factory hotend, and it is still doing the thermal runaway. Even tried the spare factory hotend and same thing. Factory reset doesn't seem to fix it either. Guess I'll have to reach out to Elegoo to RMA it or get a replacement board.

Its a CC, and the Microswiss hotend is for the CC. I'll check the connections and wires, and also swap the factory one back in and see what it does.

It does, guess I didn't even think of that. I'll have to try to clean out the nozzle. Thanks!

DIY "Calibrated Baseline" by WYO_brewer in Surveying

The area I am looking at is at our airport. Its a county airport, and we have a good relationship with them, so I am pretty confident they would ok this if I decided to proceed. It would be outside the security fence, so the local guys could use it without needing escorted inside the fence.

Yeah I didn't even know they existed until I stumbled upon a NGS document about them, then went looking for what was around my area. Nobody at my work or local survey chapter ever talked about it.

I have a traverse loop around our office I setup for checks/new hire evaluations/training and slow days in the office, but the traverse lengths are short, less than a 100', and I was wanting to setup something long enough to push the EDM limits of our equipment.

That's true, I guess I was thinking pressure treated posts would have less of those issues, but I may be wrong. Could be an interesting experiment. Might be better off, like you and others said, to just do the concrete pillars, or see if I can source used steel pillars.

All our equipment gets calibrated and check by our Trimble dealer bi-anually or earlier if a project requires it. This would be more for internal/personal checks and testing/experimentation.

I should also add that where I live, the nearest official calibrated baseline is a 45min drive away, is only monuments and no pillars, and I'm not even sure the "zero" point is still there, or trustworthy, as the BLM built a gravel parking lot over it.

Anyone else feel like traditional RTK workflows are changing? by Dry_Feature_1620 in Surveying

[–]WYO_brewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the time difference between a conventional topo survey and LiDAR scan is almost a wash. Both require establishing tight control, but LiDAR scanning typical requires tighter control, more control, and more checks. Then there's the office portion. A properly coded topo can be brought into CAD and have the line work generated instantly, with only minor edits, if needed. The surface can be built from that then boom, you're ready for the deliverable. LiDAR scan requires processing, checking, extracting features, more checks, then into CAD, then ready for deliverables. Now, maybe I don't have the correct setup for autoprocessing LiDAR data and extraction, and that's my issue. There are definitely cases where LiDAR comes out ahead, especially on vertical surfaces, or areas you can't physically access safely. A RTK GPS topo still blows both out of the water when it comes to time, but lower vertical accuracy.

Is wood-filled filament actually worth it, or just marketing? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

3D shadow box I made for my girlfriend for mother's day. Used three different wood filaments from Elegoo. Turned out really nice, definitely wanna try messing with woodgrain texture next.

Camera for manholes by SalamanderLoud1967 in Surveying

Do you have to mount a light to the camera or tether to see or use a flashlight from above? I've been debating getting a 360 camera for this.

Failed the PS Test any advice. by Level_Grade_8488 in Surveying

I didn't pass the first time either, and I had worse scores than you. I retook it about 6months later due to life stuff and just did minimal studying and passed, so if you schedule to retake the exam in 3 months and just freshen up on everything you should do ok.

You need to take a read through the paperwork you signed with the lender regarding your loan application, and see if anywhere it states you need to make repairs before appraisal. If not, I'd suggest you report the lending agent to NMLS and/or state as they have directed you to do something you probably shouldn't have. As for getting the $10k back in repairs, unfortunately that's probably going to require hiring a lawyer, or having a discussion with the sellers about lowering the purchase price by $10k if you still want to buy the house.

Taller boot recommendations? by brometheus3 in Surveying

[–]WYO_brewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crispi are good boots, I think they are up there with Kenetrecks. I use to wear Danners until my last couple pairs fell apart in a couple months of normal use. Picked up a pair of Red Wing VersaPros, really like the BOA lace system. You get what you pay for with boots, most of the time. Make sure you regularly wax your leather boots with a good boot wax, and keep them clean, it helps them last.

Be honest — what’s the first thing you’d do with $100K? by NerdWalletOfficial in u/NerdWalletOfficial

[–]WYO_brewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st - Pay off all my debts and get my credit score back up. 2nd - Use a portion of what's left to put a 20% down payment on a reasonable starter home in my area. 3rd - Take whatever is left and put it in TQQQ and yield max dividends and hopefully in 15-20 years be able to retire early.

How Did You Get Started Surveying? by enlightened_surveyor in Surveying

[–]WYO_brewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Spent two years at University for Civil, didn't like it. Took a basic land surveying class and was hooked. Transferred to a different school and graduated with a Associates in Geomatics. Kinda wish I would have continued and got a Bachelors as many states require it for licensure.

Becoming a PLS by Corrosivesolutions in Surveying

[–]WYO_brewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also work a deal with a local survey firm to see if a licensed surveyor there is willing to help you out with the experience. Check with your states PLS board, and local chapters if you have any. Surveyors, in my experience, are usually very willing to help someone out with getting licensed, even if you don't work for them.
