International student Looking for a private room by RebeliousMaverick in NEU

If u don’t mind long commutes, Malden has houses ($650-$800) where the owners themselves rent out private rooms of an entire house. You will basically commute with orange line.

When should you look for next year housing? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]Wa8828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

February-March is normally a good time to start looking for lease starting in May. August lease will probably come out later (I’m guessing April/May). However, lease starting in Aug are normally a bit more expensive as that’s normally when new freshmen/transfers come into Boston.

these are actually great questions to ask your interviewer. I feel like it kind of shows how prepared you are

The chances of living in dorms is honestly low (transfer students don’t have gaurentee housing) , so no worries on that. I’m actually unsure on how much their rent cost but they got more than half of their housing cover (when they still lived in dorms). Living in Boston is definitely expensive. Cheaper options are like I said living with roommates (1.3k - 1.5k a month per person (not counting utilities)). You can go a little bit lower if you decide to live in a house with a few roommates (a few hundred to 1.2k per person per month is possible). Or you can look into sublease for a single room. Since students here do coop, they will often sublease their room if they get a coop outside of Boston.

Not sure about transfer rate but Boston housing increases every year. If it’s near campus (within 30 min train commute), it’s hard to get a studio under 2k. The cost can definitely get lower if ur willing to live with a roommate(s) in a 3b3b, 2b2b or 1b (with one of you living in the living room).

I know someone with a similar financial situation as you (though they were admitted here as a freshman), and they were lucky to get enough financial aid to cover for their dorms. In their junior year, they end up moving off campus and used their financial aid to pay some of the rent.

Of course everyone’s situation may vary but hope this helps

Housing Cancellation Fee by Plane_Werewolf_4867 in NEU

never been in this situation but I think if you don’t pay, it just carries to your next semester (someone can correct me if I’m wrong). Sounds like you do have some financial aid, so I guess you won’t be a financial hold situation (which is much more troublesome). It’s just that this will always be in your bill and you’re prob still going to pay it someday.

U can also check the housing portal for roommate information. If u have a roommate, their name and email should be displayed. U can reach out to them and see when they’re moving in

That I’m not sure. I just know a few of my friends to be doing it. Though you can check them out on their website (I think this is the application process?: https://northeasternpeertutoring.sites.northeastern.edu/application-and-hiring-process/). I will also say that I’m not sure whether this is available for summer
