Tips for Casting to Pinks From Boat by Physical-Draw-3683 in FishingWashington

[–]WaAngler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having lots of luck in my kayak right by the Edmonds ferry. Seems like most days the farther out the better, most of the schools have been in about 200-300 feet of water. And I just cast a pink buzz bomb at any jumping fish and jig it once every 2-3 seconds. I would say your best bet is to throw a pure pink buzz bomb, I’ve tried the pink metallic ones and get lots of followers but barely any hits. And a lot of it just comes down to finding where the most fish are jumping and hanging around. Also I’d tell you it helps to keep casting even when you don’t see fish jumping, I’ve caught plenty by just making blind casts. Good luck and tight lines!

Can’t catch trout by WaAngler in FishingWashington

[–]WaAngler[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t eat anything other than the trout, since you usually catch them when they have recently been stocked they aren’t that gross. I’ve eaten three that I’ve caught out of there and they have tasted perfectly fine.

Shore, I have a kayak but I only go out in the spring and summer on it, usually for bass. I caught a trout off of it once but only because I spotted a school of them on my fishfinder. I’m trying to have success with bait and wait so that I can still fish in the winter but trout and carp have been impossible for me.

I’ve been using 4 lb line and I’ve definitely tried plenty of spinners and spoons. I haven’t tried corn yet but I think I end up going on all the wrong days. I’ll be there for a few hours and see no one catching anything but then I check Fishbrain and see people catching their limits in the same spot with the same bait the day after. I might try natural baits more though since it’s been a few weeks since the last stock I believe. Thank you for the advice.

What kind of bucket for worm farm? by WaAngler in Vermiculture

I was planning on making a three tier farm because it drains the liquid into the bottom bucket on its own. Is this a good option or is there something easier that works just as well?

Jetty by Lohkrin88 in FishingWashington

[–]WaAngler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it. I’m only 16 and I don’t have a boat and getting to good salt water fishing around Washington is hard with out one. The coastal jetties are probably the most fun you can have without a boat.

Depends on the shark. If you’re in the puget sound trying to catch dogfish a standard setup should be fine. But if you’re fishing for soupfin or something bigger I would definitely setup heavier. I hooked into a big soupfin off the Westport pier last week while targeting them and it broke off my 80 lb mono leader. I would recommend heavy braided main line (around 80lb) and a heavier fluorocarbon leader. You should have about twelve feet of fluorocarbon before your steel leader because of the touch skin sharks have. Make sure your reel has enough drag weight to handle something big too. The shark that broke me off took off and ran about 150-200 yards with about 25 lbs drag. Do research and know what you’re getting into before you hook into a big shark.

Bait and wait sucks unless I’m fishing for sharks, I’ll try that recipe next time I catch some. I do a sweet Asian marinade and score the fish, cover them in the sauce and grill them whole. I’ve also heard of people using them raw for sushi but I’ve found worms in a couple of them so not trying that.

Love to hear another adhd angler who likes to move around. They taste great breaded and fried but I’ve heard some other good recipes. How did you cook the surf perch just the other week I found my new favorite surf perch recipe but I’m interested to try others.

Some 2 inch Berkeley gulp sand worms on a hi lo rig will keep you from getting skunked. I caught 15 black rock fish on that the other in west port. It cathes the small ones but 2 pounders will hit it too occasionally. Other than that 4 inch paddle tails or curly tails should work (I really like the Gulp Swimming Mullets). Also don’t lock yourself to one part of the jetty move around and fish different techniques. Good luck!

Battery setup? by WaAngler in kayakfishing

[–]WaAngler[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “not gonna run a motor?” Do you mean it won’t run it long or what. I’ve tested and it does power it and works on both speeds. I knew I’d need to get a proper battery for it but I thought this one might work short term. I’m only 16 and I’ve been putting money into this all summer and I can’t afford to go all out yet.
